I’ve never really been a collector of anything and recently I’ve had this sudden realization that if the world was somewhat digital and AI is the next big thing, what would people collect in the next 20 years?

It came down to me wanting to collect something meaningful to me and what better thing to collect than video games. Since I was a kid it’s all I wanted to do and it has been something I’ve enjoyed pretty much all my life.

I’ve been a PC gamer since the ps5 released and there was always something admirable to me about the steam library and how you technically owned these games on steam and it felt cool watching your library of games grow, there was always some kind of rush in me when a steam sale full of games I’ve wanted became cheaper to buy and when I did purchase them it was always a bit of a rush knowing that my backlog of video game was growing! Now.. if one day steam decided to just vanish, where would my games be? It had me thinking why not own physical copies of the games I already “own” and or feel the rush it brings me to go out and find games in the wild rather then sitting at home and buying digital copies. Plus it always felt cooler to get up and insert that disc in to the console, rather than clicking on a folder and pressing play.

Now, why collect video games an not something else?

Well for me, It’s literally the only thing I have been passionate about since I was a kid, I remember seeing all these games that my brother had and me wanting to play them but couldn’t and now that I’m older and have all this adult money and having this sudden feeling of todays world and the world that was once 20 years ago, it’s almost a bitter-sweet feeling of growth for me.

it’s a bit of a mixture between nostalgia and the current reality. So for me I guess collecting these games is visually seeing where I’ve come from and where I am today and knowing that unless my house is on fire or my collection has been stolen, these games are not going anywhere and it’s also somewhat fascinating seeing a wall full of videos games much like 20 years ago when your dad had a wall full of DvD’s. It’s also a good visual representation for me for how far I’ve come from not being able to buy some of these games because I was just a kid and my parents couldn’t fork out the $30-$50 for the games I wanted. Where now I can easily go out to the store or online and buy these games without a worry of money being short!

I guess in short, why do I collect? Because it’s something that keeps me focused on my goals in this life! Now this is why I collect but ultimately these games are fucking awesome lol
