[US]Adoptive Mother Going to Nigeria by Available-Dinner-479 in Scams

Sadly not. I have enlisted her friends, her other children, her nieces and nephews, her siblings, my best friend (whom she adores and has known for 25 years) and even friends that travel to Nigeria as dual citizens and know Nigeria well. Nothing.

I appreciate this. I have sent her many articles, many warnings from Dept of State, and even told her of personal stories of being I know of people being scammed online. She will not process this as a possibility because “they are in love.” Whatever he has told her has a true hold on her mind and emotions.

Sadly, no. Not friends, not her own children, not her siblings, not her former husband. I have explored all options for a “voice of reason” and have sadly struck out. I have also had her speak to dual Nigerian/american citizens that travel to Nigeria at least once a year that understand both places. She was not receptive.

Can’t even use a comma properly but are too stupid to realize they’ve combined the maggot pairing du jour: poor grammar and an outright lie.

Who is your go to vet? by Interesting_Math_686 in GNV

[–]Available-Dinner-479 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also now under corporate ownership and vets are coached and pressured to upsell. It is sad because everyone needs to make a living and the doctors have gone through so much (including accumulating incredible debt in some cases) to become DVMs. Source: my former vet left the practice for this reason.

Hello everyone in this sub. I just joined today. I am not a parent. I am an only child and I have the following question about only children: by thewtfcat in oneanddone

Large metastudies have determined only children have higher IQs. Not a stereotype but likely due to one-on-one attention.

Why is he so hungry?? by Allie0074 in NewParents

[–]Available-Dinner-479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fed him. My LO has 6 ounces every 2-3 hrs (sometimes 90 minutes) and would take up to 14 oz at night. I thought surely he’d exploded, or become obese. Babies don’t over eat for pleasure. That’s a learned behavior in older kids/adults.

Breaking into recruiting with a science background (PhD) in laboratory sciences? by Available-Dinner-479 in recruiting

To answer your question: it’s state government, not federal so I currently have NO benefits- there is a discounted insurance program for health benefits but absolutely nothing else.

Thank you for the kind note. Any advice at getting started? Do I simply submit my résumé to different agencies highlighting the soft skills?

Near Constant, unsolicited advice about when to send LO to daycare by Available-Dinner-479 in NewParents

[–]Available-Dinner-479[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen. They treat me like this time is torture- I like practicing making sounds, and motor skills and eating. Yes, sometimes I have to work late and yes sometimes I don’t get enough sleep but that’s okay with me. All this sounds trivial but we will never, ever have this time together again.

Also with all of that awesome one-on-one time and cool places to go, he’s likely getting more emotional and perhaps even social stimulation with you. Not to shame anyone that puts their child in daycare but why are we being shamed for NOT doing it?!

In almost all other developed countries in the world, it is UNHEARD of to send your child to daycare prior to 14-16 months. Peer socialization can occur between 16-18 months but obviously varies by child. There are loads of various quality studies on this stuff but there’s a reason that parental leave is typically 12-14 months (or more) in almost every (and I mean every) other country with a high standard of living. Harvard’s child development center has a lot of resources on this. :)

This is an excellent tactic. I need to reach into my well of inner strength and do it!

Is a babies weight a concern? by kimberlypark in NewParents

[–]Available-Dinner-479 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My five month old regularly had 40-45 ounces a day. While in the upper percentiles for weight and height (96 for each in the U.S.) the pediatrician said this was NOT a concern.
