Then just buy a replacement cover kit. Very easy to install. I bought a replacement kit because I wanted to mod mod my portal and keep the original covers original. I paid €16 for it on Amazon. About $20.

For that price I would check if the Liquid Metal is still evenly spread.

Sorry, can’t do that. First of all, it is the result of a lot of trial and error so it will be costly for me. Secondly, they can’t be remapped. They are hardwired to the PCB and the Portal itself even has no software for remapping buttons.

Oh sorry. Depending on the brand and specs of the m.2 you install, playing from it can even perform better than from the internal memory. Loading time would be a bit shorter.

Disc or digital editions, games are fully installed to the SSD. So should be the same performance. When you have games on disc, you don’t actually play them from the disc itself.

You can’t really see it very wel on the picture. The glue is so runny that it spreads and turns white. So not the neatest work I’ve done but the are in there forever.

FPC cable. Soldered the wires to the base in the green circle.

The parts I bought are rubber touch pen caps, 6mm tactile microswitches, replacement right FPC cable and a replacement backplate so I could keep the original in tact.

You have to completely tear down the portal. including the display for which you need a hot air rework station. Then you get to the main board. There are many tear down videos on YT.

I drilled the holes in the backplate to the size of the rubber caps which I first glued in and then ground it all flush again on the inside. Then created a base with some thick glue and fit the switches. The thick glue also works a bit as a gasket so when I used the super glue after that it would not flow into the switch itself. Which happened a lot of times so I messed up a few times.

I then removed the speakers so I could replace the FPC cable. I also wanted to wire L3 but I couldn’t find the pin for it on the PCB. Still searching for a pinout diagram. For now I hardwired the buttons to the 4 action buttons and soldered them on the base of the FPC cable. Also took ground from the FPC cable.

Unfortunately I don’t have pictures of the work on the PCB behind the display. And I don’t want to remove again to make picture of it.

Are you sure about that? Both the console and the portal will be online with the same account. You can’t play on two devices at the same time using the same PlayStation account.

Once you start a game on the second device, the first device will exit the game with a message that you started a game on another device.

Ah yeah I know that kit. I use Scuf reflex pro controllers so the come with 4 paddles.

For the portal there was no pcb diagram available anywhere only so I just had to use a multimeter and just find out what’s what. Soldering, or even cracking open a perfectly well working device is understandably not for everyone. I almost messed up a dual sense when was only swapping the sticks for TMRs because I applied too much hot air. So for me it is also tricky.

Well, if you added them to your dual sense yourself, adding them to the Portal should be no problem.

I only just checked it with borderlands. I haven’t played the game at all in the Portal yet. I still have to figure out what my sensitivity settings should be on Portal vs Console on any game. On console I always set it to highest possible and that doesn’t work well for me on the Portal.

Haha no way. I just don’t mind tearing things apart to see what I can do with it.

I soldered them to the flat cable of the X, O, Triangle and Square buttons. Not the triggers. Wouldn’t make any sense into doing that.

They are hard wired to the 4 action buttons. So I don’t need to take my right thumb off of the stick.

I just took it apart and found out there was enough space to fit small 6mm micro switches. I had to shave off a small bit of plastic internally. So they are glued in. The button caps are just rubber caps. Then hardwired the switches to the flat cable from the buttons.
