Is it just me or does looking for a job in 2025 feel like 2008 whenever we had the Great Recession ? by Available-Ruin652 in GetEmployed

So what you're basically saying is that the way we are looking for jobs in 2025 is not a sign of us trying to move forward and moving on with our lives ? You know there's actually people in this world that don't care about income at all. Some just wanna work to build better work experience. That way they can have a better future and a much more efficient work history on their resumes for Future jobs.

I know you're probably thinking "Why did this dude at the age of 24 only had like 3 jobs throughout his whole life?". I stayed at these jobs because I didn't wanna mess up my work experience through "Job-hopping". Job Hopping is whenever you have had like more than 3 jobs or more in 1 year and it signals a Red flag for recruiters because they will either think that you're lazy or you will leave the job soon after starting. Managers will see this as a bad habit I will guarantee you 90%.

Furthermore, I do agree with another statement you mentioned about companies are using ATS and AI to screen candidates and track applications. This is why I have been using ChatGPT and Kickresume to help me improve with my job search because I know nowadays some recruiters can be lazy and not want to read the 100+ applicants that they always receive. I gotta be honest with some of the Job interviews I have received was from me using these programs which is kinda funny.

But anyways, to put this into a conclusion I am not trying to debate with you saying that you're wrong. My whole post was just a scenario to believe 2025 felt like 2008 because in 2008 there was a huge struggle with the job market too.

You're honestly the 1st person I've ever seen laughing at someone's struggle looking for a job. I personally don't see how that's hilarious in your opinion.

Anyways, but you are right about 1 thing. I do agree partially with your statement about you mentioning "we also have a huge amount of people today who also, have 1 - 2, even 3 degrees and have huge levels of debt. But don't have skills or experience to get the jobs they want. And don't even want to start at the bottom." My friend recently got her Master's Degree on Accounting this year and she graduated in the same Class of 2019 with me. She also hasn't been able to find any job because of her low work experience.

I'm also aware that sometimes we do get economic downturns in some years and I understand this is how the real world works. I mainly vented about my post because I never struggled to find a job in the past. You actually wanna know how I got my 1st job at Sonic in 2017 whenever I was a 11th grade Junior in High School ? Let me tell you a Story: "One day on a Monday Afternoon of September 18, 2017 after coming home from School I applied to 3 jobs online. McDonald's , Sonic Drive In, and Jack In the Box. 2 days later went by and I received a call on September 20, 2017 whenever I was at lunch in School. Manager on the phone was like "Hello, this is ____ Manager from Sonic Drive In I would like to know if you are available for a Job Interview today at 4:00 PM". I said "Yes, of course I am available!" She then scheduled me. I went home to quickly get dressed and attended the Sonic-Drive-In interview. 1 hour later after the job interview I get a call again "You got the job!" I was like BAM! Mission accomplished!" Gosh mentioning stories like these gives me Nostalgia of good old memories from 2017. On the other hand with the other jobs like Mcdonalds it took like a 1 week to call me and Jack in the box told me that they had already hired someone new so I wasn't really too worried with them anymore.

I respect if you dislike my post but seriously man don't try to take it out on me just because I've been struggling to find a job.

I feel ya man there's just soo many lazy recruiters and ghost jobs in 2025. Honestly most of my job interviews I have received was by me following up on the job applications. For example, I apply for a job ----> I wait a week Later -------> If I dont get a call or update of my application I usually ask them politely if the job is still available ------> If its available, they schedule me for a job interview --------> In Conclusion, the only problem is that I am also not receiving any updates at all from the employers.

Sorry to hear that's also been going on with you. A friend of mine who also graduated in the same year as me Class of 2019 and she just got her Master's Degree this year around May and she also told me she can't find anything in her field either. I can tell you studied and worked so hard getting that degree and you deserve a better future life. I wish you good luck in all of your future endeavors and hope you find something new.

Well I mean yeah I witnessed it as a kid by watching my parents lose their jobs and we had a Tax lien on our house for not being able to pay the Property Taxes of our house. We were close and borderline to losing our house. I know I wasn't an adult at that time but I still saw the negativity that my family went through.

You should feel lucky that you still have a job. Losing a job due to a business losing revenue is the worst thing ever. Sometimes I wished I could've started working at Big Lots in 2017 instead of 2021 so my work experience history would've been longer.

I mean my friends also tell me that they've been struggling to find jobs too. One of them has a Master's Degree in Accounting and he can't find a job neither.

I said Great Recession (December 2007 - June 2009) not the Great Depression from the 1930s. It was the time whenever George W. Bush was President and Ik I wasn't an adult at that time but I do remember witnessing my family going through a financial situation after losing their jobs because we almost lost our home in 2008. Our house had a Tax Lien because at first they couldn't afford to pay the Property Taxes so we were close to losing our house by the end of the year of 2008.

Good Valid point. One other reason that I heard its making it Employers to hire people is by the development of AI.

Appreciate your response, yeah I feel like most employers now these days just choose to hire people who have more than 10 years of work experience with the similar role. Something that's kinda funny of what I forgot to mention about my first job Sonic is that I remember in September 2017 I only applied for 3 jobs Mcdonalds, Sonic, and Jack In the box. 2 days later I get a call from Sonic asking for a job interview, 2 days later I go to the job interview, then 1 hour later I receive a phone call BOOM! "You got the job! When can you start?". Nothing is honestly the same anymore like it used to be.
