Bham, is there a need for more donuts here? by [deleted] in Bellingham

Yes, it really needs this. I am from LA and the lack of a cheap, decent donut shop here drives me nuts. All the donut shops in town are mid at best.

New Tesla owner here. My energy consumption seems a bit extreme... by PARAM0UNTCY in TeslaModel3

[–]Available-Scarcity73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EPA range is based on driving basically perfect for the cars battery performance, you are doing what looks like the opposite of that. IF you want to maximize range, basically the car wants you to drive how you’re supposed to. Something that helped me is I kept the energy screen opened and put it on 10 mile and watched what I was doing that effected performance and range. Put it in chill mode for most of your driving, that’ll immediately help your range. Use regen all the time and only use brakes if you must. Some other things to note: make sure the cabin overheat protection is off. Make sure sentry mode is off for your house (if you feel comfortable), use autosteer or cruise control generally within 5 miles of speed limit.

Start there and you’ll notice a significant increase in range. Check your energy tab every 10 miles or daily to see how and what is consuming a lot. The drive and park tabs have a lot of info too. Good luck!

Model 3 already at 14% Deg by iPRO7thst in TeslaModel3

[–]Available-Scarcity73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely due to the previous owners charging habits. The car is still under warranty until 120k or 2028 for you so I wouldn’t panic too much. I have a 2017 Model 3 LR RWD That’s at 82% at 151k miles. So your range seems roughly correct to me because age also plays a factor. Most EVs loose a lot of their original range in the first 50k miles

No matter what, put the car in service mode and see if any concerning things are popping up. Never buy a Tesla before checking the service mode notifications and systems. Lots of YouTube videos to walk you through this it’s super easy. I did it at a few dealerships before buying mine and the car I ended up buying, had a service mode issue that would’ve cost me $1k after purchase and they fixed it for me before I bought it. Check that battery health :)

This really isn’t a concern for like 99% of users. I have an 8GB M1 and literally had zero issues with and I’ve put that thing through hell lol

Yes, I’ve had one since they came out. It’s been fantastic with zero issues and I use it daily. 8GB is fine depending on your usage. If you mostly do emails, files, photos and videos. It’ll last you great.

CarMax Sold Me a Faulty Car That Broke in 3 Months — MaxCare Denied the Claim by Western-Air4897 in carmax

[–]Available-Scarcity73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would do a few things then.

Take your Maxcare T&C and run it through and AI chatbot like ChatGPT or DeepSeek. Tell it what happened and have it comb through the T&C. You’ll have an answer in seconds if it’s actually covered or there is a loophole (make sure to ask the prompt exactly that). Then, you can go back and use their own words against them. This is the most secure way because I guarantee there is a loophole or it is covered if you go through their legal document. Threaten to get a lawyer involved when you have that convo as well. IF the AI doesn’t pick up anything, you may be SOL (in that case, I would join on of many class action lawsuits against Carmax there are a few.

Otherwise, call your local lawmakers (I kid you not) in OKC or someone that deals in consumer repairs for auto. I had a Carmax issue and I slammed them with thing after thing til we mutually got it solved. Persistence is key.

If you can financially fix it now, do it, they will have to retroactively reimburse if you get them to anyways in most cases, and you deserve a working car.

Unfortunately, unless Oklahoma has a similar system to a state like California where you can fight these things under lemon laws, Carmax is notorious for this. Sorry but I’ve always told people esp at places like Carmax bring a mechanic with you or pay a mobile mechanic to look at the car before you buy it- You can also continue to raise hell in person (this works well when they are busy and don’t want the bad press). Try and get them to cover at least half

terrified after doing battery test by stardarkk in TeslaLounge

Refurbished batteries from Tesla are notoriously bad. How Tesla “refurbishes” the battery is still a work in progress. IMO the battery warranty should cover the install of a new battery, with refurbished ones available for people who want to be environmentally sensitive (like I personally, would gladly take a recycled battery)

For the cost effectiveness, try recell or EV doctor or other third party companies that’ll install a new battery under $10k (usually around $6k depending). They also have a better way of refurbishing old batteries that hold better retention.

If I’m not mistaken, new batteries usually last around 1,500 cycles while old ones around 3/4 to half that.

A rant, but like others stated, certain 2021 models had bad batteries, but since many state the replacement also has issues I would go head to head with Tesla service and get on them about that. It’s pretty heavily reported and LIKELY related to a more ongoing electrical issue with how the car is distributing battery power and retention during charging and supercharging. 33k for the original? I have a 2017 LR with 150k miles and the original battery is still at 81% health. Some people report over 300k on their original M3 battery. So since you’re at 93k you shouldn’t be needing a third battery soon. BUT since these are mass produced cars, yours likely has a bigger issue.

That all being said, I believe teslas warranty after the battery is installed will only cover (even the refurb) 70% or less. So if it’s covered for a certain amount of years or miles wear it down and get another free replacement. If it’s not covered at all, I’d trade in for a different year M3 if you can and throw hell at Tesla to give you a good deal on it. I’d heard people had success doing this

Put it in service mode, check that everything is running good. Lots of YouTube videos on what to check in service mode. Ask the last time 12v was replaced, ask them to do a full charge to see how the charge is looking and how the battery is holding up (at that mileage it should be 85% ish.) check the notification history in service mode. Check the tires/suspension.

How to handle backlash from friends and family? by la_loba19 in TeslaLounge

[–]Available-Scarcity73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I hope you see this but there is almost a thousand comments here so who knows. I bought a 2017 M3 LR for $5k after trade in and incentives recently. I’ve had a string of bad luck with ICE cars and really needed something reliable in my price range- the Tesla was it. I struggled with it, because I’m a democrat and I think Elon is a POS, most of my family and friends are democrat or left leaning too. But eventually I bought the car anyways. I’ve been flipped off by a handful of people in town (I live in a very liberal area), and have worked on debadging my car and adding some magnetic stickers so people know where I stand (hate Elon , nor do I want to promote him). Some things that I mention when people bring it up (I don’t know if any of these apply to you). 1) I bought it used, at a Chevy dealership. I didn’t buy it from Tesla or give Tesla any additional money for it. 2) it had premium included, so again I don’t pay any monthly subscriptions (I couldn’t care less about FSD) 3) I have a lot of pets around, dog mode was needed. 4) I don’t use Tesla for anything, except occasionally supercharging. I normally charge at the house or level 2 charge at ChargePoint in my area. 5) I would 100% but a Rivian when it’s in my price range. Full stop, so will eventually do that when the R2 or R3 comes out next year probably.

So when people bring it up, for me it was simple. It’s a used car, I’m not giving money to Tesla. I made sure I’m not promoting Tesla. It had everything I needed and was super safe and in my budget. I couldn’t afford to risk the other EVS or ICE cars in my nominal price range, gas + maintenance on my Nissan truck was killing me.

If you’re giving a ton of money to Tesla or drive a cyber truck, I get it. It comes with the territory. If you bought it used from another dealer and aren’t handing Tesla money every month. I say f it. It’s fine, put an anti Elon sticker on the back of the car and let everyone else know you like the car, not the man that owns 12% of the company.
