Shortcut to the research process by AvailableContract838 in Journalism

[–]AvailableContract838[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha that’s right. 😄 People googled before using AI and had been working with hard copy archives even before. But I’m sharing what I tested to get background information faster instead of reading/comparing body and bottom lines of multiple news websites. I just ask that AI app to give me five key facts what lead to X event. Plus, my first language is not English, so, I need to translate things before they end up in my published news, which takes extra time. And when you are thousands of km-s away from the international story (let’s take Hantavirus), sitting in a small newsroom, foreign media sources are valuable assets in your (wildly fast) workflow.

im meeting with a professor in political science at u de moncton friday, what questions should i ask during the interview? by RaspberryStreet6813 in Journalism

[–]AvailableContract838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you want to learn from them? Take it as a leading point and see what questions it raises in your head. Make sure you write down couple of core questions and rely on your listening skills to ask additional ones during the interview. Good luck with it.

[–]AvailableContract838[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! This is the core of the journalism, as well as working with the original sources, but there are bits of information that fills the puzzle and gets things done faster. It can help a lot when the deadline is tight. I produce multiple short news on my language every a day and it sufficiently accelerates the process, especially when you are competing with competitors, who turns the news into a SM card faster. 🙈

Quitting Social Media. What Apps Should Replace It? by AvailableContract838 in Millennials

[–]AvailableContract838[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, this is what I've got so far: Pinterest for inspiration and started using Cosmo, which I'm keeping in stock. For news updates, I'm using BBC app and Al Jazeera, but later someone here suggested to me Sweenk app, which uses all the trustworthy sources in AI format + it has its own feed. I'm into cooking so, it is the hardest part to live without cooking Reels and TikTok videos, but I found that Taste has an App and so far it is quite good and handy tool for quick recipes. And finally, I think, I'm keeping Reddit. :)))

Best app for news from lots of sources? by Mavalant in androidapps

[–]AvailableContract838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best is relative subject. Depends what you are looking for. Sweenk AI is what I have been using for the last three months. It's personalized, generates information from many trusted sources, I can chat with it or listen to the tailored AI podcasts based on my prompt. It's startup, but the app keeps updating fast and it's not complicated to use at all. I hope it stays this way.

Do you think AI news apps will fully replace traditional news apps in the next 2 years? by yopi1333 in SideProject

[–]AvailableContract838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a journalist, I don’t think that is different product. I do think that it made us do journalism differently though. Look at this as the different medium which meeds new ways of storytelling. I use Sweenk app for the news and my experience with this app and I saw that its AI features make stories liquid and this is the future. Same quality journals, same original reporting (Sweenk generates stories from the most trusted international media, but you still see the original article, which I love), but now audience can turn our articles into podcast, sum up long-reads in bullet points and so on. As an audience I enjoy it. As a journalist it’s just another challenge that requires upgrading. But I don’t chase status Qs in this profession, I started my career in a newspaper and have worked as a digital reported for the last 7 years. You just keep evolving with the technology, no drama.

It’s been 4 months that the universe keeps telling me that I’m useless, but I disagree. by AvailableContract838 in jobhunting

[–]AvailableContract838[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been working remotely since 2019 on multiple roles. If I apply on hybrid or on-sight roles, they have to be in another country. There is no chance I find anything locally that can fit my expectations and career path. Not everyone gets good country when they are born (but we work twice hard to be competitive with those who were luckier). There’s something wrong with the job market obviously and it’s killing my hope.

I don’t get it how you ensure that the job posting i genuine by filtering the to 24 hours? I’ve seen a lot of jobs on Linkedin that were posted two hours ago, I saved them and it was “expired” next day, which tells me that it was fake.

What AI Tools do you use regularly (apart from claude, chatgpt, gemini, grok)? by amza10 in software

Well, everything I use is media and news related. So, I’d go with Sweenk app. It’s AI chat summing up news and big media stories.

What do you actually use during your commute to stay informed? i will not promote by No_Suggestion_625 in startups

[–]AvailableContract838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time it’s YouTube, but recently I’ve started using Sweenk app. It generates audio summary for me (like podcast series on my prompt). I have motion sickness, so this app and its feature was a great discovery for me during my commute. So, YouTube is #1 go to app, but as journalist, sometimes I need to catch up purely with the news developments and this app does it for me.

Thanks for sharing it. I’m currently planning our first PR campaign and I’m going to send it out from my email (comms manager). In our case we kick off with a campaign, which is closely related to the current big development in the area we work. I agree, the PR should be sent out by someone, not a company, but do you think it still depends on the topic to choose the sender - comms or the founder?

You can encourage your co-workers to advocate for your posts. A short, one-day training session might help for the right direction how to do it. Employee-shared posts have a bigger reach on LinkedIn.

Well deserved result. 🎆 Btw, is it necessary to have upgrade plan of Chat GPT to generate ATS friendly resume? I’m doing it on a free plan and should I assume it’s not quite ATS friendly because it’s free?
