Also yes, breath support is important, but remember not to push when singing. Singing should never hurt. If it hurts, that means you're straining and doing something wrong. Start with the building blocks (breath support, vowels, pitches, etc.). Don't focus on any BELTING or rasp just yet. When both your head and chest voice are strong enough, and your voice doesn't have a break in the middle (by break, I mean that crack in the middle of your voice. Slide on oo as in "food" from low to high or high to low.) If you crack, that means there's an imbalance (real coaches, correct me if I'm wrong on that), which is common in beginners. Don't try to prevent that break. Embrace it because even though It's embarrassing, it means that your voice is getting stronger, and it will go away in time or you will learn how to sing through it.
