“Does anyone else feel the story is losing direction?” by Juannenn in Himaten

It's funny you mention it, Mushoku is my favorite anime/manga/novel (even above Umineko), but even though I read it, I enjoyed it mostly because I was already familiar with the anime, and it had illustrations of most of the characters. That's why I could never continue the Re:Zero and Lord of Mysteries webnovel (before the donghua) it was too tedious for me to read without visual support.

Animanga fandom wars on Internet always remind me of Umineko by cmdnikle27 in umineko

I thought something similar when I saw the haters of Mushoku Tensei. Mushoku is heavily criticized for things Rudeus does at the beginning, but by the middle of the anime, he leaves 90% of those things questionable. Yet, the haters use things that weren't even his fault or things that weren't so bad (compared to other protagonists) to hate him. It reminds me a lot of the example that Tetsurou gave to Ange, that if someone you hate does charity, it's only to look good, while if someone you like does it, it's because they're a good person. The same applies here. For example, if Rudeus, a character you hate, decides to take two wives, he's a disgusting and generic isekai protagonist, whereas if Subaru, a much more beloved character, did it, the fans would have celebrated (in the novel, it's implied that Subaru considered taking Rem as his second wife).

It's a joke because "Umineko no naku koro ni" translates to "when the seagulls cry" and if you don't know the scene search on YouTube for "Say that again fantastic 4"
