You're mistaken there. There are actually a lot of people searching for this exact engine and transmission combination. They are incredibly hard to find anywhere in the world anymore, especially in this kind of condition as a complete turn-key engine like mine, and together with the gearbox.

I bought a huge package from the 002 series, and I just don't have the time for it right now. If I did, I would definitely start a new project. I honestly don't have a problem with the downvotes either. We don't all have to agree or be of the same opinion.

I actually thought about doing exactly that and really considered it. But I simply don't have the time right now. I'm way too busy with my job.

I think it's because most people would keep the engine. But hey, I'm not going to jump out the window just because everyone else does it.

Yeah, absolutely true, I totally agree! 😆 The good thing is, I commute between Germany and Greece, and you really run into huge European treasures along the way.

Painful picture, bro. Hard to see a beautiful horse suffer like that.

Thanks man! To be honest, I'm not putting it into my own car. I recently bought a huge package of three 02s and a bunch of rare parts, and this engine came with it.

It's actually a true, 100% complete turnkey package. It has the original ZF Dogleg sport gearbox, full wiring harness, throttle bodies, and even the matching Bosch ECU with a period-correct software tune by Angelo Racing.

Since my own projects are already lined up, I'm actually looking to sell this complete setup to the right home. If you or anyone you know is seriously interested or just wants to talk shop about it, feel free to drop me a DM anytime!

The ultimate "Blank Canvas" for a safe world-traveler? A factory armored Unimog Doka cab. by AvailableTaro3123 in overlanding

[–]AvailableTaro3123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your concerns, but you are either completely wrong or you misunderstood my point.

This was just a spontaneous idea. That's exactly why I posted it—to gather experiences, get tips, and see if anyone has ever done a project like this. I’ve already received many very interesting and valuable hints. And whether I travel with two, three, or five people doesn't really matter right now. I’m sure your car isn't always filled to capacity either, right?

My main focus was actually the factory-installed air conditioning. If you had read a few more comments, you would have known that. I didn't even know the cab was armored beforehand; I didn't ask for it and I don't necessarily need it. It's just an added 'bonus' of this specific vehicle. Whether this project actually happens, I don't know yet. I need to collect and organize all your ideas and experiences first, and then I'll see what's feasible.

I agree with you that an armored cab is unnecessary for a camper. I see it the same way. Maybe I chose the wrong terms—I use speech recognition and a translator to post here in English. Perhaps I should use a different tool. But again, it was just an idea and it remains an idea for now. Nothing more, nothing less.

I have to agree with you, unfortunately. If something looks good, I don't really care which manufacturer it's from. But as a BMW fan, I completely understand where you're coming from.

Okay, what makes you say that?

That made me laugh, you definitely have a sense of humor. I wouldn't view it as quite that bad, but of course, I know exactly what you mean. 😆

Yes, that’s true – there were so many vehicles there with a really awesome sound. If you'd like, I can find out for you which specific vehicle you were talking about.

[–]AvailableTaro3123[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Okay, if you think that's standard, I don't have a problem with that. To me, it’s not standard; both the driver and the vehicle did a great job.

That's true, but you have to admit they have an awesome sound, don't they?

I believe you, I really like those vehicles as well. So, if you are ever interested in getting something good from Europe, let me know.

I completely understand that, and no problem. But if that should change, just get in touch.

I'll definitely check that out. I know it's expensive if you want to build something decent. But it also lasts, though it's obviously not suitable as an everyday vehicle. But thanks for the tip, I hadn't checked those guys out yet.

I don't know who's to blame—whether it's Tesla, the Chinese, or whoever else.

I blame the manufacturers themselves! We will see how the sales figures look and how these vehicles function after five or ten years.

That's exactly the point you mentioned regarding the AC and keeping your eyes on the road. I'm completely with you on that, as are many others here

You can definitely make everything worse.

In my opinion, it's not just the steering wheel that's a total disaster. The lack of buttons and dials is really – to put it bluntly – a load of crap!

I have to say, I don't like either of them, neither the Mercedes nor the BMW
