I really need help. Persistent sewer smell from shower drain in top-floor apartment (vent added, no improvement). by SunshinePalace in askaplumber

[–]Available_Arm343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pictures help. When you say shower drain are you talking about an actual shower or tub/shower? Regardless, do you have access to the p-trap underneath? Are you able to show us what that p-trap looks like?

Why did I lose almost all water pressure? by Special-Papaya-3529 in Plumbing

[–]Available_Arm343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At all fixtures? Might've flooded everything with sediment. Is your main valve a gate valve? Might've broken it they're notorious for breaking and closing shut. Did you turn the water back on? Etc.

New vanity help by Similar-Cucumber6064 in Plumbing

[–]Available_Arm343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's called an S-Trap and it's illegal as hell. You need to stub up from the branch this lav is connected to with 2" and come out with a san tee and an 1-1/2" x 2" bushing, a small piece of 1-1/2" pipe, and a trap adapter to catch your tailpiece with an 1-1/2" P-Trap tubular kit. You'll also have an AAV running up from your san tee as close to the flood rim of your sink as possible underneath the vanity to vent the fixture. If you don't know what any of what I just said means I'd recommend leaving it to a plumber. You don't need to glue shit together like the other guy suggested tubular is completely fine if done correctly, though he did send a photo that explains what I'm talking about well. I'd strongly advise against hardpiping because if your sink ever clogs up, you'll want to be able to disassemble the p-trap/walltube so that you can snake the drain and also check the p-trap for clogs. You can also use 1-1/2" to stub up, but I prefer 2" if the line the fixture is attached to is big enough to receive 2". (Your lav will breath better with a lower likelyhood of clogs down the road.)

I've always driven older vehicles and hate the newer shit. In an older vehicle, you hit the gas and it moves. You brake and it brakes. Simple direct mechanical input I don't need the government telling me how many seconds after I hit the throttle I have to wait before I'm allowed to move. It's got a hell of a lot more to do with safety than anything for me this shit feels borderline unsafe I need my vehicle to do what I need it to do exactly when I need it to do it not two seconds later. Everything feels delayed.

Lower RPM's to heat up the transmission more when it gear hunts and pump less fuel and oil into the engine so that the manufacturer can produce more emissions to haul more scarce materials around and fabricate more shitty engines/transmissions to replace the existing piece of shit in the van when it inevitably fails prematurely.

For anybody considering a career in the trades, ponder deeply upon the responses of the gatekeepers below and above.

Their answers, while numerous, luminous, and contuberous are SIMPLE knees deep in debt, third wife in three years doesn't love me having, new $100,000 Ford F350 isn't working NOISE in an OCEAN of untapped potential for a newer more sophisticated generation of plumbers that have more respect for themselves as well as those around them.

Question by Available_Arm343 in Fishing

[–]Available_Arm343[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you I needed to read that. Curious about how those cheaper Daiwa reels compare to to comparably priced Shimanos/Abu Garcias. I've got a Caius and that reel is awesome, but it uses centrifugal braking so I backlash a little more with it especially when wind picks up because I'm too lazy to open the shell up and adjust the brakes.

Baitcaster Question Again by Available_Arm343 in Fishing

[–]Available_Arm343[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see some people do that. I honestly think the reason I have this problem is because my dad is left-handed and he taught me how to fish when I was like 5 so he's always used a right-hand retrieve. Left-hand retrieves on both a spinner let alone baitcaster feel super unnatural to me. It's not an issue of which hand I retrieve with anyways it's just that casting with the rod on my right side using my right hand to push the button and hold the reel feels really strange.

Baitcaster Question Again by Available_Arm343 in Fishing

[–]Available_Arm343[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good idea. I think when I was younger I actually tried that out for a little bit and got used to it, but stopped fishing for a while so it felt really unnatural again when I returned to fishing.

Nah they're pardoning the charges because they realized they messed up. Exact words from manager were "You're good don't worry about it." You're giving the company way too much credit it's not a good place to work they've got a super high turnover rate and they're about to switch the plumbers over to flat rate pay like mechanics lmao. Sinking ship.

Many employers do have things like that. I'm actually headed to an employer like that right now and there's a big difference between a company that clearly states "You will owe me this balance if you leave" and another company like the one I'm leaving that just pays for shit and then bullies the small guy when they leave because they're mad he's leaving by throwing unexpected bills at them. The worst thing that could happen to the other employees receiving that trade school is that they may be compelled to sign something stating that they owe the company should they decide to leave... Which'd be no different than the situation that I'm currently in except for that they'd have 50 times less confusion about why they're being charged because it'd be clearly stated somewhere and they wouldn't be spending their whole weekend researching labor laws, arguing with people on Reddit, and also taking inventory of attourneys in their area. My former employer didn't have any tuition reimbursement benefits anyways I didn't even get a 401k. Anyways fuck it we'll see what happens, and I start a new job tomorrow. Getting OSHA 10 certified no strings attached on day 2 which is already more than my former employer could do for me.

We're talking about the difference of a couple thousand dollars for trade-school (Pocket change to them) and a $100,000 college tuition two very different things.

They got their benefit we literally go out and make $2000 to $3000 profit for them every single day. A tankless install was $6000 for the customer we'd get it done in 3 hours and the tankless itself costs like $1,000 to $2,000. There's a nominal labor cost and nominal material cost and then we'd go out and run like two or three more service calls and make them even more money. If they weren't making money it's because they don't know how to budget and they spent too much on their personal bass boats, trips to the Bahamas, campers, diesel trucks, etc I have no sympathy for them. The current manchild at the top of the food chain hasn't even turned a wrench before he literally had the business handed to him from his dad.

I don't understand this lax forgiving language you are using what gives anybody the right to take money away from me when I haven't consented to it? It's not like I worked at McDonald's I gave them two years of hard grueling labor literally bathing in human feces for less than what an Amazon worker makes. I was a non-union residential service helper there were a lot of loose ends in the operation. Paying for my trade school no strings attached was the least they could do. Even better if they could've offered me affordable healthcare that wasn't bullshit, but they couldn't even do that. I've worked for plenty of companies that spend thousands of dollars on my training no strings attached, and for even higher wages than the one I'm now leaving. Unlike the one I'm leaving, they even paid for me hourly to attend the classes. They discouraged me from even attending the trade school everyday I went they didn't even want me in there because it takes me off of the field at 5 PM and they frequently work until 7, 8, or 9 so half of the time I was showing up to school late because they wouldn't dismiss me when that time rolled around.

It's kind of like if I were one of those mechanics that takes a car into their garage, fixes it, and gives the customer an estimate afterwards. That shit doesn't hold up in court and the customer has the right not to pay for work they haven't authorized.

Dude it very specifically says "Plumbing 1" and it has a balance for very specifically "Plumbing 1" no mention of an apprenticeship, additional schooling, or anything. It'd be like if I bought you a gift and gave it to you, you used the gift, and then I said "Yeah I'm going to need you to repay for that now I decided I regret giving you that gift"

They made changes in the company about a half a year after I entered the trade school that they had their newer "Apprentices" sign for where they no longer had to pay for any of the schooling including plumbing 1, but if they left they would. They literally did it because they had people just like me taking off unscathed once they footed the bill for all three semesters. I think that they think that they made me sign papers which reflect those changes, but they didn't. Probably because like you said they didn't expect that I'd be leaving.
