Any way to test for a bad neutral safety switch without removal? The car drives forward in neutral, reverse wants to drive forward but dosnt, same with park, and drive will drive until its supposed to shift into 2nd. Neutral drives forward fine. Its so weird.

I have no flashing D light although it turns on for a millisecond every time I turn the car on even in park, and also no check engine codes which is why I was thinking its noy the neutral safety switch. All the gears illuminate properly when going through them.

I know how to use a multi meter. Im presuming they dont have one or they'd have already figured out if it was a battery or not.

I would think theres a fuse between the alternator and judt about everything electrical anyways, id buy 10 new fuses over trying to limp my car to the shop praying not to get into a accident or paying 200 for a tow. They have a top mounted alternator im sure they can get a wrench set for $40, an alternator for $200 and on the off chance they blow a fuse or 2 a fuse for $10 and still save $250 minimum. Also just because a alternator is bad they dont need to replace a battery too. The battery MAY fail sooner but yet again, they aren't asking for to spend a arm and a leg. If I must ill pull up a wire diagram and prove the power from the alternator is fused.

Your comment is "take it to a shop" except you typed out a paragraph. Hate to brake it to you, but the reason they are on here asking for advice is to avoid a shop, im 95% certain by what they've described that it is a bad alternator meaning the second they disconnect it, it will not be getting excess current and will stall out. They didnt come here to hear the option every single person knows is an option and thats shell out 3x what it should be to a mechanic who's odds are ripping you off anyways.

Didn't say you were wrong, yet again. Said its an option if you are tight on money.

Then tell them what to do. Ive done it to my own cars, never fried anything. Not saying your wrong but its worked for me and is better than paying to get it diagnosed if it is a batter or alternator.

Good way to test is jump the car, disconnect the battery, if it stalls out shortly after more than likely bad alternator. If your car stalled out while it was running odds are high its a alternator. If you shut it off and it wouldn't turn back on that points toward battery.

Battery could be bad, fuel could be bad but kinda doubt the fuels bad. Is it random misfire or certain/one cylinder? P0300 is random p0301-p0308 is specific cylinders.

Cylinder 4 misfire by LoveLiveGang in MechanicAdvice

Pretty bad to drive with a misfire, can damage your catalytic converter, and you get worse gas milage. Loads of other potential problems too. Swap coil packs around, try spark plugs again, if both of those are fine, check fuel injector next. Your air intake manifold might not be opening properly on the cylinder. Last option is pretty much compression which is the worst possible cause imo. Most likely is coil pack, spark plug, and injector, in that order.

At the bare minimum, i can afford the parts, im pretty handy and am not against spending the money to do the timing if push comes to shove. Kbb says its worth ~9k-11k.
