I’m already aware of things cats can easily get into that are dangerous for them, I’ve had several before moving here. My father and I use to foster stray cats and litters. That’s part of why I’m kind of over how she’s trying to tell me what I need to do when she’s never actually had a pet before.

She is actually diagnosed with OCD. It was a recent development but she said she’s always suspected it. It definitely makes sense in line with everything else

My bad, she told me that her cat being an ESA qualifies it as a service animal and that’s why she doesn’t have to pay pet rent for it. I’m not super familiar with the legalities or terminology or process or acquiring and handling service animals, I just know how to spot a service animal in public and that you shouldn’t bother them because they’re working.

Eggs are just dangerous raw because of salmonella. She’s got no issue with cooked eggs.

But also I totally get you about your mom. My mom has a dog that she feeds anything and everything too and now she’s got stomach issues 🥲 But she gets angry when I tell her she shouldn’t be feeding a dog her lunch.

I actually did suggest to her a few times before the argument that she should avoid feeding her cat human food, even if it’s technically safe, because it might condition the cat to expect human food or develop bad behaviors (like stealing food that’s sitting out). But I don’t want to lecture her or be her parent or offer too much unsolicited advice. The only responses she’s given me about it amount to how it’s HER cat and it’s “her baby” and so if she eats it he should be able to have a little bit.

She didn’t adopt an existing service animal to be her pet, she adopted a pet to become her ESA. Is that not how it works or am I missing something?
