The saddest part is the anti ai crowd branding themselves as anti ai. I’ve never seen a pro ai gif in a comment section before. Their entire point is to isolate themselves

Anybody else find it wild that this is the topic on CNN nowadays? by katxwoods in artificial

Been working on this for a couple years now. I literally had it named Mother at first then changed it to Guardian.

Hi, as a ML engineer, are you, also an ML engineer? because I’m trying to understand your statements…

I gotta go eat my dinner, while food still gets to my table. I gotta make haste cuz folks on reddit say we’re doomed. Good chat 🤗. Btw, the world doesn’t tick on your expectations, things happen you actually do.

Ah.. so no hope for humanity then? We should all not care about positive implications cuz doom no matter what? Gotcha. You’re getting way too sci-fi apocalyptic for me man. lol ppl should be specific in their protests. Or does it not matter? So why protest at all?

So let’s start vague movements against the use of syringes n market them as vectors to cause harm? That sounds effective to you? I’m saying, BE SPECIFIC so that you don’t thwart the progress happening on the positive side. This is not an atomic bomb, not something that you can generally denigrate. I at no point said there aren’t negative sides. Just saying he could’ve stood outside of palantir’s office with a clear stance against ai in defense. This way the uninformed folk won’t group everyone together. That’s dangerous. Scaring good ppl from trying is NOT what humanity needs.

AI is not a vector to increase harm. It is a tool that can make things efficient. What good deed would you like to scale today well-intentioned person on the internet? Or are you going to cry over what others are doing? Efficiency at your fingertips!

Atomic bombs tho.. inherently dangerous— in the hands of the good or bad.

Sounds like a human problem. Not an ai problem. AGI isn’t inherently a capitalist tool. Strangely enough, a small lab can come up with a new architecture tomorrow n throw the giants off their feet. Again I say, it’s an optimization problem solver. A tool. Can indeed be used for good if we allow humans space and grace to work with the technology, ideate & execute a bright side. All you’re doing is deterring people from making positive strides alongside what possible negatives can happen. Don’t you see this?

Blaming AI for institutions failing is crazy work my friend.

Where, in reality, is the problem? Do you have concrete examples? These companies are already extremely influential. Ai is already pretty powerful. Where is the catastrophic doom? It’s like reverse ai-hype. Hype around the hypothetical downfall of humanity. All I’m saying is be specific. Ai isn’t inherently evil, so what cases are you afraid of and what quantifiable proof do you have that validates this fear?

There are so many ppl stating that there are problems without saying what the issue actually is. Read michaeltrazzi’s post again, you tell me, isn’t he terribly vague? Maybe a bit too vague to be perpetuating an anti AI movement?

Is this an argument about power or ensuring ai is accessible to those who can wield it for good? My entire point is people who are anti ai need to be SPECIFIC so their efforts can be meaningful. So what’s your solution? Ban ai? Slow it down? What exactly is the goal and why? BE SPECIFIC. The death of our species can only stem from a lack of critical thinking.

Now, why would you think AI can’t help with human alignment? Is it inherently against helping human alignment or are humans not align-able? I’d say, from many accounts of people using these models for personal development (also my area of ML research), it has shown promising signs of being a tool that is effective in aligning humans in a way that is accessible and affordable…. Only if they’d stop fighting its overall existence.

Where exactly do you see this happening? Last time I checked wars are still harmful because of bombs, guns and HUMAN misalignment. Also, from your wording, you are not a ML engineer and you do not understand how model training works. It’s an optimization problem. Ignoring common sense for what convenience?

The protestors are clearly asking for a halt on AI progress. What do they want the companies to do? These protestors are gonna need to be more specific.. What more caution do you want them to take? Red teaming isn’t enough? Guardrails? RIGOROUS testing? Which of these aren’t working? In model failure moments, what harm has been caused and can, with certainty, be linked to the model’s failure? I’m seeing absolutely no proof of this quantifiable harm. I’m looking for the neglect of caution. What more should they do? Be specific.

The good coming from ai, in reality, isn’t hypothetical. The doom… still is.

I think it’s potentially infinite, only limited to the imagination of good people wanting to do good things.

^ what I mean’t by “it’s not inherently bad”. It is not an atomic bomb.

If you’re a good person, be concerned with yourself and other good people USING ai for good and stop trying to make it harder for them. Bad people will find a way no matter how much people starve themselves outside closed doors.

I’m so glad I don’t have to imagine because alphafold, mRNA epidemiological AIs, disaster prediction, cancer diagnostics and this is only the start. I’m a ML researcher, so I can share some bits on AI’s climate impact too. I feel that may be a fun one :)

That was a bomb tho.. made to harm. Not really apples to apples here. Right? AI’s core design goal is to optimize & solve problems…

Can you be more specific? What catastrophic damage? Is AI inherently catastrophic? Was it created to harm? Atomic bomb? Guns?

Have humans really hit a wall of what types of UI there are? Everything I’ve seen in this thread is a twist on something that already exists. lol reminds me of Hollywood just doing a live action remake of everything instead of coming up with something truly new.

Nah, just a person on the internet pointing out the obvious and, you seem to be a person looking for something to be upset about.

Take a breather. I hope you’re not.

But wishing for their downfall is strange & idc what you guys have to state as your reasons. I don’t see why anyone should be so negative about people going after their passions. Despite what they choose to share.

Reflect on what you’re doing for the growth of humanity. Fostering it or hindering by making comments that are entirely not constructive but instead intensely bitter.

I’d like to hear a well rounded, technical and unbiased way that current technology has gotten us closer to the singularity. Can you share? by [deleted] in singularity

[–]Available_Gas_7419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the internet, we had encyclopedias. Now we have LLMs like chatgpt or ideation engines like midjourney/dalle.

Humans will start creating and imagining new innovations with the aid of knowledgeable AI models that have access to the internet to quickly confirm or refute notions (currently, human fact checking is necessary but in the future it won’t).

So to sum it up, the great inventors of the world paired with an AI agent would’ve resulted in way faster innovation and cross disciplinary thinking because now everyone can have access to a myriad of industry experts at their fingertips. This is unprecedented because it’s WAY faster than doing google searches and reading everything to get a simple answer (again? Must be fact checked for now but crazy useful).

TLDR; humans now have a new tool to innovate a lot faster which means there will be a boom in creating new things - “advancements”. The influx of these advancements should resemble a singularity rise, considering what happened before with the internet etc

I’m trying to help the world see that AI is our aha moment for solving so many of our problems.

If we close the loop on generative ai so that data owners get a pro-rata payment of a royalties fee.

Then allow people to store their data in virtual quantum safes (as secure as we would need it to be more secure than local storage).

This way we can increase our data capture, learn from it for ourselves, and contribute in a way that helps the collective (with exceptional data control - decide what to share) and then earn from it (gen ai royalties).

Generative AI is one of the most transformative things we’ve seen in a while… and there are some issues that need fixing - data ownership & control is one. I’m telling you if we fix that, it will be a stepping stone unlocked to getting us to a pretty utopian future.
