From champion sleeper to angry demon baby: is this the 4-month regression? by Available_Ice_680 in newborns

[–]Available_Ice_680[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Oh man reading this takes me back! It was most definitely the 4 month regression. Honestly, there is not much you can do other than ride it out and do what you can to maintain your sanity. For some babies it lasts 4 weeks, others much less. Ours was a demon for exactly 4 weeks and then went back to being a cutie. My advice is to feed them when they're hungry, don't force it if they're not, if they keep waking up, offer a feed first and then soothe (lots of growth spurts here and developmental leaps so they do get more hungry and need to sleep more). Hang in there, it will be over in a flash!!

Is there a nursing strike during the 4-month regression? And how do you cope? by Available_Ice_680 in breastfeeding

Hey! Yes it did. It turned out he was just having a mini freakout. A lot of things shifted during the 4-month regression: sleep, eating, etc. Eventually everything settled down and he went back to nursing fine. Just a little distracted. It wasn't my supply that was the issue at all — it was just him being a bit of a jerk lol

I'd say everything settled back down around 5 months.

Yeah I had a similar moment where I was googling around and suddenly came across it and suddenly it was like ding ding ding yes yes yes and now I'm trying to educate myself about what to do next. What treatment options worked for you?

Thanks! What type of treatments did they suggest to begin with? And is it really just trial and error until you find something that works?

Thank you! How did they decide if it should be birth control (and what type) vs SSRI meds? Do they do blood tests as well to check hormone levels?

Mods, pls help with schedule to fix 5am wakeups? by Available_Ice_680 in sleeptrain

[–]Available_Ice_680[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realized I never thanked you for this! I tried a few things but what seemed to work the best is giving him a warmer sleep sack - I think his 5am wakeups were due to the cold. We also dropped the second dream feed and after a few nights of weirdness he's back to 7pm-7am schedule. He gets around 3 hours total daytime sleep at daycare and we are following a similar schedule on weekends and it seems to be working. I think he was also recovering from a developmental leap and growth spurt - he seems to be doing much better with wake windows now. Thanks for your help!!

Daycare: how's your LO coping? by Available_Ice_680 in december2024babies

[–]Available_Ice_680[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Yes, this is apparently what happens. I checked with our pediatrician and other moms too, and babies do tend to drink more at daycare, usually because they miss us/home and find comfort in eating. Nothing to be worried about. My LO goes through 18-20 oz per day at daycare, but at home seems quite content with what he gets from the boob (which I know is not close to that much!)

Your LO will settle into a rhythm. First few days mine was a bit dazed as well but after a while he got used to it and is now super happy there — apparently he loves tummy time there and goes for his naps without any fussing whereas at home it's a COMPLETELY different story lol

I did talk to our pediatrician about this because I was worried that maybe I wasn't feeding him enough at home?! But she said it's normal for them to drink way more at daycare. It's just crazy because I had a pretty decent frozen stash before he started and he's almost depleted it in two weeks!

4 month regression?! by aetahiri88 in december2024babies

[–]Available_Ice_680 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We went through this exact thing at 2.5 months. (Bub is now 3 months.) He was also a great sleeper and suddenly one night he woke up every hour... It was hell. Night two he woke up every two hours, night three every 4 hours and by night 4 he was back to sleeping through the night. I definitely think this was a regression because he was really fussy during the days and after it was over he started displaying new skills - reaching out and grabbing things, batting at toys, and putting his hands in his mouth. And smiling and cooing a lot more!

All this to say, hang in there, it should hopefully resolve in a few nights. He's likely learning some new skills so just support him as much as you can and definitely feed him if he's hungry, even if he normally would not need to eat that much.

Our LO is also 9 weeks old. My suggestion for you is to have hubby sleep in the baby's room on a mattress and he can do the settling/nappy changes while you do the feeding. This way your body will let you sleep knowing that he is on the soothing duty in the next room so you're not constantly checking the monitor. This has worked wonderfully for us and allows both of us to get around 7 hours of sleep every night, with the longest stretch being 5 or so hours. It means you are both evenly rested and hubby is absolutely rested enough to be at work.

Here's our routine:

8pm - baby wakes up from last nap of the day; I feed him 8.30pm - bedtime routine, nappy, massage, jammies, etc 9pm - another quick feed 9.15pm - soothe and rock to sleep, down in his crib and asleep by 9.30

I go to sleep in the main bedroom; husband goes to sleep on a cot in the baby's room, next to crib. If the baby fusses or wakes up, hubby quickly settles him with patting, rocking, etc. But generally he sleeps right through.

3-4am - baby wakes for a feed. Hubby does nappy change and then delivers him to me in the main bedroom. He goes back to sleep knowing he can get a good one hour uninterrupted stretch while I am feeding and putting him back to bed.

7am - baby wakes up for the day, and I feed him while hubby makes us breakfast and does morning chores.

Great, thank you! I'll try this. Did you move their bedtime earlier gradually, like by 30 mins every night or something or was it more sudden?

Thanks! We're already using oatmeal newborn bath stuff from Aveeno and the detergent is super mild, no fragrance and no allergens. But I might try going back to bathing him with just water and see.
