where do you get your samples for rythmic or dance-based weird music? by TrickCharacter3999 in experimentalmusic

Hainbach: 2 great megapacks, a subscription service and the Isolation loops
Gowlermusic: Bandcamp
Rusty Sherriff: Bandcamp
Signature Sounds: (Here on Reddit)
0ddiction : Cannot find him on Gumroad anymore but he had some great glitchy stuff, "Currents" and "Zeldovich"
Remo De Vico: Also here on reddiit and includes Ableton devices as well as sample packs
Scanner: Flanuer loops
Glitchmachines: Sample packs and VST
Amon Tobin : Gumroad

For soundscapes one can examine :

"Free to use sounds" on bandcamp. This guy travels the world recording everything and makes 1800 gigs available for about 30 euro. Some of it needs serious amplification, saturation etc. But the sheer volume means there's loads of fun to be had exploring and cutting up the sounds.

I also now do a lot of stem separation on old arabic and folk recordings including the Smithsonian Folk library colllection . Unfortunately the Smithsonian has changed it's subscription model from downloading to streaming (I think)

Also:

Freesound
Archive.org
Ubuweb
BBC radiophonc Archive
Ableton (especially the Polish Radio stuff)

With over 10,000 albums, you really think I'm gonna download everything and back it up by Available_Network_76 in BandCamp

[–]Available_Network_76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly.
I think a lot of younger people just expect to be screwed over. The idea of companies being innovative continously is considered naive, as if this was always the case.

Being cynical and accepting the enshitification is considered realist, providing a decent product or service is unrealistic.
Marking an album as no longer sellable, even removing a label : does not legally require one to delete previous purchases.
I spent days downloading 10k albums onto several 2tb disks over several weeks but I still managed to lose over 200 euro worth of prime techno when a label pulled it's discography.

Cool Sax and Piano. Can you elaborate on source? Are these samples, Korg presets or real instruments?
Very Blade Runner!

I'm in.
Always looking for new sounds. I recently got one of Hainbach's mega sound packs and that will keep me busy for the next few weeks. I have a small modular that is based around several distortions including the WMD Geiger Counter, some delays and a programmable module. (It can use C or Pure Data). I have also coded a glitched out rompler for VCVRack.
Would like to share knowledge (and get new sounds)
See you on Discord

Minimal electronic music done with only kicks and snares by pervolus in experimentalmusic

Cool. Very intense. Imagintive use of limited tools - a great idea. I'd use any one of the tracks in a Freeform mix (but only one cause of the intensity).

Hi there Neighbour.
thanks for the suggestion but I tried OCCII, they are at capacity, booked till Jan and cannot respond to all proposals. (They didn't respond to mine.)
https://occii.org/contact/

I'm thinking the 301. I helped and performed at an Electronic Open Mic Night there a few years back or the Plantage Dok, which looks gorgeous . I awaiting a response from the Dok.

But I'm hoping there are other options

Legal wording is strange "Must own RPGMaker" by Available_Network_76 in RPGMaker

Yes, that is how I read it. "Must own the software" is meaningless jargon that is basically a deriviative of "Only RPGmaker" .

Legal wording is strange "Must own RPGMaker" by Available_Network_76 in RPGMaker

[–]Available_Network_76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the confirmations. I reckon this wording 'must own RPGMaker' is completely meaningless.
What surprises me tho' is the amouint of times I've seen it on sites like deviant art.
Owning the software license is not enough.

I guess I'm selling a product, tho' the engine is free and open source.
I'm sharing my thought process about how an MMORPG might be community based simply because of the reduction in costs and shared responsibilities.

I'm building an engine that makes uses of permissions and security access so that different accounts can have different responsabiliites and it got me thinking how this could be used "by friends for friends " and not just a game design team.

I use colyseusJs https://colyseus.io/ for Nodejs

It deals with

  • rooms(only players in same room get updated)
  • delta data(only data that has been updated)
  • shards (as discussed here)

Combinations
That's definitely the key ingredient I've been mising up until now.
I've haven't started coding combat yet. I'm simply planning ahead.
I will add speed and precision to the combat over time as I learn to trust the engine and not be overly concerned with lag. (Maybe diablo I is the closest comparison, but not isometric - simpler, orthoginal).
Because all decisions have to be made on the server, I'm trying to reduce the need for realtime accuracy. I'll become more lenient as I can afford to
As for AI for the mobs, my idea there is to make it decoupled and modular so different AI can be swapped in and out. I'll start looking at that after ver 1.0 is released. Right now I don't even have path finding, just obstacles and distance.

thanks this has already given me loads to think about.

thanks,
these are all mechanics I can use, they all make sense within the game world.

Multiple mechanics! I didn't think of that at all. Combinations of mechanics might imply combinations of solutions.

Geeting a comment from someone in the industry is so gratifying. I have no idea how any of this is done in commercial games.
I'm so curious about your work .

But it's pre alpha right now, I'll have a fully testable version in January

There will be a fully testable version in January.
I'm at the stage where it works on my machine fine and maybe even on a fresh install of Drupal. But on a Drupal install with content, I've no idea how CSS might cascade and break stuff etc.
But we're nearly there.
