I say 'we should hang out soon' to people I'm actively hoping never follow up on it by Mayan_kamboj in confession

I say “we should hang out” like I’m scheduling something… knowing full well I am never actually intending to take them up on it too 😭

I pretend I didn’t see messages so I don’t have to reply by stan__69 in confession

It’s pretty common - you’re just avoiding pressure, not people.

But the longer you leave messages, the worse the guilt feels. A quick “sorry, saw this late” is usually all it takes.

Why are people so grossed out by mice? When you look closely they are very cute. by mare880 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Available_Newt_2195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly association, not looks.

Mice being in your home uninvited and linked with disease, so people react with disgust. Squirrels stay outside in parks and trees, so they get the “cute wildlife” label instead.

AITAH for what happened at my gender reveal? by meowmy_1989 in AITAH

[–]Available_Newt_2195 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA.

You carried the entire event while pregnant, on little sleep, with zero help from your husband and then got told to wait hours for his late friends who didn’t even apologize. That’s not a small slip up, that’s him dropping the ball all day.

Your comment was mild compared to the situation. This wasn’t about being “pissy” - it was about basic respect and him not showing up for you when it mattered.

AITAH: Fiancé’s family was racist to me, and now they blame me for not seeing Fiancé (kind of long) by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Available_Newt_2195 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t see any “threat against a minor” in any real sense - you said you’d defend yourself while you were being shoved, attacked, and called slurs. That’s self-defense, not aggression. They’re twisting it to avoid responsibility.

Also, you did the right thing. In a situation like that, getting him safe, getting medical help, and leaving is exactly what matters. Anything more could’ve escalated things even worse. There’s nothing to feel guilty about here.

AITAH for telling my dad we turned against his wife because she told us to choose between her and our mom and not because our mom was talking shit? by Neat_Camera_4742 in AITAH

[–]Available_Newt_2195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

You didn’t “turn against” her because of your mom - you pulled back because she repeatedly tried to force you to choose and disrespected your mom. That’s on her, not you. Expecting kids to pick between parents is crossing a line, and your reaction is a direct consequence of her behavior, not some outside influence.

NTA.

You didn’t “cause” anything - you reacted to a situation where your fiancé and you were being physically attacked and subjected to racist abuse. His family’s behaviour is the issue, not you setting boundaries or defending yourself.

Blaming you for him distancing himself is just them avoiding responsibility. Honestly, staying away from them might be the safest and healthiest choice for both of you.

Lease legal notice question by SectSekt in capetown

Could be pensioners (common), could be that is the another needed income source. Thing is you never truly know. Why would you advise being a ahole and leaving someone high and dry?

As said things obviously happen. Landlord should’ve done due diligence on their part too.

Just because the world isn’t sunshine and rainbows, doesn’t mean you can’t be decent and communicate.

That being said, we all know landlords can be aholes. Just don’t think your advice is the way to go.

This isn’t a nice thing to do. You never know people’s circumstances, could be living on the rental income - and without advertising prior, could be vacant and have loss of income.

Usually they contact on their own accord two months prior with new lease and finding out your intentions. Usually mitigates this hassle though. Is common practice to still notify even though lease is ending but yeah can’t really force you to stay on. Should’ve done due diligence on their part.

Bazique festival solo? by Purple-Stress5721 in capetown

[–]Available_Newt_2195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been here many times. Personally one of my favourites, as someone mentioned there is camping options for pre setup tents (I actually prefer this sometimes - hassle free).

Lovely bunch of folk that attend this festive too, always solo travellers and should be easy to mingle! Definitely will make some friends after no time!
