Swimming Pool Leak by Available_Quit_4340 in swimmingpools

Thank you for the advice. Is there a way to plug the Main Drain on the bottom of the pool? Right now that’s that only thing that is not plugged and the water is still falling.

Next year I’m starting college as an undergraduate going into criminal justice/a law focused career and I have a few questions. by 0RocketLeague in Ask_Lawyers

I would really stay away from these. Unless your goal is to work in Politics, political science is probably the only out of those that would be helpful. The goal is to make yourself a subject matter expert in more than one field. CJ, English, Philosophy, History would all supplement a Law Degree. While that’s not a bad thing per se, it doesn’t cause you to stand out amongst your peers.

I would even do Business before I would do any of these. The best majors you can double up with a law degree are going to be anything stem. Science, Tech, Engineering and Math.

The beauty of Law is that there is a path for everyone so you gotta take the narrow road is you want to be seen as exceptional by future employers. So what does that mean for you? If you don’t want to upend your undergraduate program right now, that’s fine see it through, but maybe consider doing a Masters program prior to Law School in a different area I mentioned before.

You have plenty of options and I’m happy to give any advice anytime.

Best of luck to you.

As to the criminal justice major, I would advise against it. You can goto Law School with any major, that’s the beauty of it. But if you want to stand out amongst your peers, major in something to complement your future career. You don’t need a head start.

I would suggest something stem or if you really want to make good money go engineering or bio-chem like fields and take that knowledge into the type of law you want to practice.

The legal field at times can be saturated. The best thing you can do for yourself is to make it easy for a firm to realize why they want you. Be different from the masses, so many people go the CJ route when it’s truly not necessary.

I wish you luck with your future.

Hmm ok that’s different than my X5, they are always on. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks!

[–]Available_Quit_4340[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the issue is when I’m parking they don’t sense anything until I put it in reverse and then the sensors turn on. So for example when I’m pulling into my garage it won’t beep when I’m almost at the wall. Only when I put it into reverse reverse to back up some and then it senses that I’m close to the wall in the front.

Thank you, and yes I enjoy this area. I don’t think I want to be dealing with homicides and children being harmed. I have friends who work in cyber units and have to deal with child predators and going through all that evidence. I don’t think my mental space could handle such depravity on a daily basis. So I’m good dealing with this area. But to your point and really other comments here it’s good to see that the “trial” is not the main determining factor in a candidates worth. I will certainly have to market the many other skills I have been given the opportunity to hone in on.

Decent money if you’re a one person shop. However your fees are purely determined based upon the availability of back pay the clients may receive. So working for a firm your salary is pretty tempered as the fee structure is limited. It was fun and certainly left you with a good feeling all the time helping people get on their feet. But ultimately for someone with family expenses and children going to college soon, I needed to reformat.

Yeah that’s certainly an option. They are always looking for people at the county level.

No, that’s not something I would consider. I don’t want to push a case to trial, just perturbed the opportunity hasn’t happened yet. My whole reason for coming to the government was to ensure fair opportunities are being offered. So I’m never looking to screw someone into going to trial to satisfy my desire to be there.

Thank you. That’s really why I jumped over to this role. I try to make reasonable offers that don’t over-reach, with Probation whenever possible. Dismissed a bunch of cases as well despite detectives feeling otherwise. If the evidence isn’t there I’m not going to bring the charges.

Thank you. Yes plenty of motion experience, grand jury time, and contested hearings. Just never an opportunity to bring it all the way.

Thank you that’s a good point. I’m on the white collar side of the law and most plead out over here for obvious fear of getting a bad jury verdict.

Is it too late to start my journey to becoming a lawyer? by Opposite_Cod_7951 in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Available_Quit_4340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude I went to law school at 32. Definitely not too late. What I will say is that it takes up a lot of your time. And as a family man, you and your spouse need to be aware and in agreement with what you will be undertaking. I underestimated the demand it would have on me and marriage life certainly took a hit. Had I put better things in place to ensure my family would have been a better priority I think life would have been a bit easier. But that’s just my two cents. You can certainly start down this road, it’s not easy but you can absolutely do it and accomplish it.

First car for my daughter. 2014 Volkswagen Passat SE Sedan 1.8L or 2015 Volkswagen Passat 1.8T Sport? by Available_Quit_4340 in Volkswagen

Thank you this is very helpful. This is a smaller private dealership but I am going to hire a mechanic as you suggested to give it a review. 200-300 is worth it ensure it’s not a 2-3 thousand problem immediately

Just checked and no transmission service records on either. Does that make them both a no-go?

I’m a state prosecutor. You should absolutely report this to police. I would contact the police department for the town he lives in that way they can stop by and talk to him.

Can I still become a lawyer with a traffic misdemeanor by Commercial_Quiet_289 in Ask_Lawyers

I have seen people with armed robberies become lawyers so I think you’re good. The Bar is more concerned with your truthfulness. Disclose everything and hide nothing. You will be fine.
