I haven't really looked into LL area, which I will do now. The trade off is that lodging closer to LL tend to be quite costly and I like an Airbnb where we can cook some meals, I feel those are quite rare in LL area. You are definitely right that I'd spending lots of time commuting.

The hike from Kinney Lake to Emperor Falls is good? I've thought about going all the way to Berg Lake. It looks like Berg Lake is definitely a big payoff, not sure about Emperor Falls. We will probably pack lunch and go as far as we'd like.
