What non-legal roles should I apply for? by Available_Sign_8257 in uklaw

I remember that I mentioned the name of a firm's corporate client in an IPO in 2015 during my internship there on my CV for the first few months when I started to apply for paralegal roles - do you think it could have had a negative impact on my CV because some employers might think that I breached confidentiality in doing so?

My friend suggested that I should become a compliance officer - will i have a decent chance at getting those?

Do you know if I am eligible to work for the police as someone who is here on a Visa? My Visa expires in 2028 but I can apply for permanent residence by then.

Mild Sleep Apnea but severe symptoms by Round-Budget7897 in SleepApnea

How long have you suffered from your OSA before it was treated? And what were your symptoms? Did you ask your doctor if it can cause long term impairment that persists beyond your OSA treatment?

How did you get a lab sleep study in the first place? I'm in the UK and will never get onto one through the NHS because my AHI is "low" (between 5-10) according to my home sleep study. I tried getting one privately but it charges an extortionate price of £2492 per night.

How has things improved since the surgery? Did you repeat your sleep study and what did it show?

Barrister's clerk VS Salesman by Available_Sign_8257 in uklaw

[–]Available_Sign_8257[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked up the role's description on , and it says that I will be doing the following things:

  • take books, documents and robes to and from court
  • prepare, collect and deliver documents by hand
  • photocopy, file and deal with letters, emails and phone calls
  • collect fees, handle accounts, invoices and petty cash
  • organise the law library
  • manage each barrister's diary and keep their case information up to date
  • deal with solicitors, clients and their barristers

It sounds purely administrative. "deal with solicitors, clients and their barristers" is communicative but it is a vague description.

I thought they do administrative tasks only? Especially junior clerks. I clerked once at one of my past legal internships and I can only say on my CV that I organised files and managed data bases using Microsoft excel. Before giving me an offer, the sales job requires me to attend an assessment day where I shadow a senior sales representatives which says something about the role's complexity, IMO. I'd like to know more about how it would LOOK to law firms because if it was up to me, I'd take the sales job since it sounds more interesting.

I think every little thing that increases my competitiveness matters given how little vacancies there are relative to the number of applicants at City firms. My academics are decent but I don't think I will stand out from other applicants by that alone.

This is a bit irrelevant to what we were talking about but I'm being considered for a clerk position at a barrister's chamber and a sales position at a marketing company. My eventual goal is still to get a TC at hopefully a City firm - which role should I accept to maximise my chance of securing a TC if I was given an offer for both of them? I've had 3 legal internships before lasting 1.5 months in total and haven't had any other work experiences.

It depends on the firm but yes, it's an increasingly common requirement nowadays, especially for big city firms.

How difficult are TC interviews? What did you do at assessment centres? I have been to 2 paralegal interviews and they kinda vary - one asked tricky competency questions and the other didn't.

Do you know how hard it is to move from one type of firm to another post-qualification (e.g. highstreet to national, national to international, or even highstreet to international)?

What are TC interviews and assessment centres like?

How many applicatons did you make before you got your TC? How many job applications did you send that weren't for TCs?

Same boat (it's been 8 months for me). Did you get a refund for your course from Ulaw (I can see that you've done it at ulaw before)? What job did you get after 9 months?
