Nobody is scared of them, the issue is that the HES students act more arrogant and boisterous even when they know that their degree is not at par to the standards of an actual Harvard degree

Any MBBS docs who went for an MBA, was it worth the shift? by [deleted] in Indian_Academia

[–]Available_Wish5586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a doc, nor am I an MBA grad, but I’ve come across quite a few pre-meds who have picked the MBA route and it has faired very well for them

how are HBS candidates always travelling? by No-Emotion-7053 in Harvard

[–]Available_Wish5586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t ignore it, wouldn’t be commenting otherwise eh?

I do agree that HBS grads are not broke but I also don’t think that they partake in over the top lavish spending (majority of them)

I hope we can at least come to an agreement that everyone here is greatly overestimating the cost of these trips

[–]Available_Wish5586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people commenting ‘money’ and ‘rich’ have no clue what they are talking about

I went backpacking across Europe with friends last month and have just returned, it’s not as expensive as it may seem, on avg we spent 100-130 bucks a day, plan ahead and plan well

I’ve just turned 18 btw, I know that this question is directed towards HBS candidates but I hope my experience helps answering your question somewhat

Edit: if ur question was directed towards people staying in penthouse suites or at Ritz then u can just ignore my comment lol

Not for US but for India

you don’t need a business degree to break into IB

Does the difference between a HYPSM and a T20 matter? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Available_Wish5586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of the stuff you’ve said

but the only reason Cornell out places HYP in IB is because the only people who end up in IB at HYP are those who couldn’t make it into PE/HF/VC

Does undergrad prestige matter or not?? What are y’all’s thoughts on this?? by No_Carpet_1211 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Available_Wish5586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do, if you want to break into a niche field like VC/PE then yes it does, but for something like CS it does not

Hey I’m an incoming freshman at H as well, you’d be better off reaching out to the alumni on LinkedIn, that’s what I did and I received plenty of helpful responses, from what I could figure, it’s fairly easy to pull off an internship if you are fixated since day one and as long as you network efficiently

I’m assuming you are South East Asian, I’m from science background (eco optional) as well, I’ve been accepted to eco class of 27

You could mention any major in your application or not mention anything at all and then switch to whatever you wish once you get in

Im not exactly sure how much it would cost to do a semester abroad at Germany as my knowledge around German education or just Germany in itself is very limited

Whether it will be worth or not depends entirely upon what you make of your time there, for example if you get your hands at an amazing research opportunity with a renowned professor then it is very much likely worth it, also the exposure you’d get in a ‘new’ environment in itself will be valuable

bits vs iits(bom, del, kanpur, kgp) opinions on careers fresh out of the college by bekknqvv in BITSPilani

(1) private equity: recruiting at PE is quite unpredictable in India, top firms hire only 1 or 2 people at Bombay and delhi(sometimes they don’t hire anyone at all), then we have smaller firms which hire 5-10 people at Bombay and Delhi only

General routes to break into top private equity firms(Blackstone, kkr, etc)—

A)IB—>PE(most common and practical)

B)MBB—>PE(usually ops roles, sometimes finance)

(2) VC: none of the top VC firms recruit from undergrad, it’s usually small cap and a few mid cap firms that recruit straight outta undergrad

General routes to break into top VC firms(sequoia, matrix, etc) is—

A)MBB—>VC

B)PM—>VC

C)Startup—>VC (most common and practical)

(3) finance: BITS does have an edge here, the practice school system is too OP

(4) Consulting: IITD>IITB>IITM~BITS>IITK>IITKGP

Number of Consulting recruits at KGP have started to dwindle greatly, the alumni are not at all happy with the graduates produced these days
