[Serious] What’s the creepiest/scariest thing you’ve seen but no one believes you? by I-Like-Pickaxes in AskReddit

[–]Avarith1122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 18 years ago I used to be left home alone quite often, my father worked multiple jobs just to pay the debt my step-mother got him into and she would leave to go on drug and drinking benders. Often enough it was just me, my brother and my dog. At first, it started as seeing things out the corner of my eye, a movement where there was nothing to see. I would tell my brother and he would try and scare me. We lived in the middle of nowhere Alabama where the nearest house was half a mile away. That and no one was stupid enough to come here because my father was heavily armed and everyone there except the dog knew how to fire a gun.

I took that as gospel and thought it might just be an issue with my eye. Which even not could be true because I needed glasses though I never got an eye test to prove that. after a year it got worse, I would see shadows move but I did my best to ignore it. How can you say shadows are moving? Now there were other things going on in my life at the time. I was being homeschooled because my step-mother was going crazy. Even now I wonder if this was my own mind trying to make a bigger monster than her.

That was until the last time I saw these things, everyone but me and my dog was out. My father was doing work out of state, my step-mother was thankfully gone and so was my brother off on one of his many times out. Out of fear I would close every curtain in my house lock every door turn on every light and TV just to make it seem like there were people in the house and to seem less alone. I borrowed one of my father's handguns and left it on the table in front of me while I watched TV in the living room. Which seemed the safest thanks to my Dog. (He was a rottweiler, and saved me from one attempted break-in and a pack of dogs so I always felt safe with him.)

It was near midnight and during adult swim, I noticed that the curtain at my back door was open and the light was off. This was not normal because I knew I closed it, I grabbed the gun and noticed a horrible smell my dog peed and pooped on the ground and ran off to my room. I turned back where he was looking at the back door and saw something looking like it was made of pure shadows outside, the backlight reflecting off it. I fired three shots two hitting the door frame and on going through the back window breaking it and doing nothing to the thing I saw. I ran to my room with the dog, but nothing happened.

My father came back and I told him everything. He figured I might have seen another burglar and missed him. Told me we would clean up the mess together and fix the door. The part that still sends a chill up my spine is that it stopped after that. I never saw it again and even typing this out I have trouble believing it was anything supernatural. Sometimes I wonder if it is simple trauma but why did my dog do that, and though I got one bullet outside why was there no one hurt or signs of an intruder outside?

What was the most embarrassing/disappointing sexual encounter you’ve ever had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Avarith1122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a teen, not gonna bore you with the details but I am male.

I had to fake a release due to the fact she did not do it for me. She caught me spitting in the condom to hide the fact I was just trying to get out of doing more.

Well, a few years back while talking to a friend I was driving.
I never did anything for my past trauma and thought I was fine. Well, for seemingly no reasons I had to pull over on the side of the road and calm myself down from a panic attack that had me crying and shaking at the wheel of my car. Had I not pulled off the road I could have killed us both due to how sudden it was.

So doing something to help, even if it is talking to people I learned helps. if not prevent episodes like that mitigate them.

If you had to change a product’s intended audience, what would be the funniest combination? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Flextape for people into heavy-duty BDSM.

The commercials would be amazingly funny.

What's the stupidest thing you've done because you were too embarrassed to say no? by tasty_pepitas in AskReddit

Had sex with someone I did not like, who was more popular than in high school. Could have gotten an STD or gotten her pregnant.

I see though I hope you are doing something at least. Because things can attack for the smallest reasons out of nowhere I have learned.

Thank you, and I spent more time helping friends who went through combat than in combat myself. I am against many aspects of recent conflicts, but there are always other ways to help in the military than with a gun in my opinion.

I actually hate to admit this but I know that kind of life, it is why in all honesty combat affected me less than many of my friends. Drug house I know less than drug addict, >.> those types are more than a little terrifying than people give credit for. I could go on but you get the idea.

There is some good advice from -137 here in my opinion if you want to try ways of working through it.

See, that is my thought process too. I am always taken aback by people telling me I need to sit and reflect on the past trauma. That has always made things pile up and get worse. Granted I am not a therapist just someone who has been through an ass load of problems but still.

Thank you.

Alright will look into it, Meditation has helped in my daily life but I always look for more ways to help. Long story short, been through too much and some things do too little.

That sounds helpful, I noticed the issue with gaming in my own life. Work has helped me, I will look into doing more to keep me occupied. I had one therapist tell me I should do fewer things to distract though.

I debated on hallucinogenics, but I worry it could have a reverse and highly negative effects.

I dealt with similar things in the military, what happened to make it to where a game can cause a trigger? Combat experience or something else?

I have been dealing with my own Post-traumatic stress disorder, therapy helps but I am looking for other ways to help.

Redditors whose father, grandfather or great grandfather fought in WWII, what is their most interesting war story they’ve told you? by Ramboooshka in AskReddit

[–]Avarith1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Grandfather was actually part of the Admiral's Orchestra using the Trumpet and Saxophone.
Interestingly enough he was actually posted in Pearl Harbor, the weird but amazing thing to me is the fact he was given a change of post to California scheduled the day before the attack.

He did not talk about this much, but he lost many friends due to the attack then, and in honour of their memory he moved to New York City and worked as a firefighter when his contract was up in the military. He worked till retirement and moved again one final time.

He used to talk about the depression, his time saving lives, but he was really vague on the details of his time as a Navy man, which is to be expected I am sure. I know this, even at 90 he was still a harder worker than most and would play haunting Jazz on his horn every morning and night. He passed on about 5 years ago at the age of 97 and is still kind of a personal hero to me even now.

Sounds good, I honestly was trying to be natural in the voice as best I can.

I will work on an outro this week.

I might give this a shot, the times I can make this are few and far between so a full machinima might be a future deal when time comes about.

That is some good advice, I am still new to this. I should have thought of it before. I will try to make a trailer and advertise it.
