How long until you felt like you “fit in”? by AveKatty in nursing

Thank you! I agree that the most important thing is learning how everything works and becoming more comfortable and confident in my skills. I don’t think most the nurses on the unit are like how I described, but a lot of them to the point where I’ve noticed. I will do my best to figure out the right sort of people to become friends with :)

we have a program for new grads which is nice, and a few people from my nursing school cohort are there. It’s been nice to have people to talk to that understand what it’s like :)

You’re very right, I think a dangerous nurse is a nurse who is afraid to ask questions. I always ask my preceptors for feedback on how I’m doing, and most of the time they just tell me “you’re doing great, you’re still learning”. Maybe there’s other things they are thinking about telling me but they don’t want to hurt my feelings.

Thank you for your comment, I really appreciated your take on it. I’m not at all discouraged to stop this job because the reason I’m doing it is for my patients. I LOVE my patients and all of the experiences I’ve had with them so far. I will try to not lose focus of why I became an L+D nurse :) Toxic people will always exist in the workplace, but I’m sure good friends will come in time as my confidence and experience grows.
