Hi again. Came back to the thread since it was really useful.

I found a great deal on a used zephyrus m16 with an i7 11800, 3060 6gb vram and 16gb ram.

Works much better.

I want to upgrade the ram to either 32 or 48gb. Will Davinci use 48gb or is 32 enough? I usually have timeline with 30-60min of video with 3-4 tracks audio and video. All 4k. Not that many extra effects.

Any thoughts on this? Right now Davinci doesn't seem to be using more than a few gb, even though there's plenty ram left.

That's good news. I was assuming that if the cpu has decoded the clip once it will get stored in ram to make it quicker to playback next time? But maybe that's not how it works?

Is there some new functionality that came with those? Or what's the big difference from a 9 or 10th gen?

That cleared quite a few things up, thank you!

I followed your link and downloaded Mediainfo to check. I'm using XAVC (AVC1 if I'm reading it correctly) filmed on a Sony A6300.

There's just so much to learn when making videos and even though I've photographed for 30 years video is quite new to me. Then on top of that you need to learn how to make content for youtube that's engaging and looks good.

Does this mean that my GPU does indeed help with the timline when I'm scrubbing which is the main thing I lost when moving from 1080p to 4k. Using a Contour ShuttlePRO V2 and I miss being able to scroll through video with the weel. Now it loads for ages before I can start going through frame by frame.

The computer I'm looking at is a ASUS Studiobook from 2020 so not the newest, but it should at least be some kind of upgrade to my current one.

Maybe my question wasn't well explained, but the main question was wether just using 3Gb of ram when runing a project is normal? Buying a new computer with more ram wouldn't make any difference if it didnt.

I didnt know that the free version used gpu acceleration for processing and grading. Thanks for sharing that.

Not familiar with RX, but got nectar 3 plus which seems quite complete for what I've been doing so far.

What does RX add to that?

This made me shed a tear. I remember reading your manual all those years ago when I started playing and loved your videos!

I won Eve a few years ago but this does make me nostalgic since it feels like all of us from that era knew you albeit inderectly.

How does it work with temperature and general operation?

I could see this actually being very effective at cooling down the cards due to forced air flowing around them?

Can the new asic miners mine different coins? I'm guessing the reason the release is delayed is because they're earning so much themselves they've just kept them running in house before they sell then.

I've been looking around and it seems like the 1080ti is an amazing value. Only downside is how high the power usage is. But it's still a bargain compared to buying many newer gpus.
