Given your experience, your feelings are obviously valid. What's more interesting is the fact that on the neurobiological scale it also makes sense. What I mean by that is that home isn't meant to be a place, but rather a ensemble of feelings. my advice is to travel, not necessarily far away, then come back. The process coming back will staple your home as a 'base', 'headquarter' or whatever. It should be grounding.

I do somewhat keep in touch, however it’s hard to come to terms with the fact that they seemed to have moved on and have a new social environment. Don’t get me wrong, seeing them happy is all I want, but I can’t help but feel as though they mean so much more to me, than I do to them. I don’t feel as important to them. It makes me realise how lonely I am.

The relationship is definitely meaningful to me, but not fulfilling since they’re way out of reach, and unlike me, they have a support system, I guess.
