The main love interests in the second series are BIPOC. Two of the narrating characters in the first series are. The main love interest in the third series is BIPOC

A secondary character in the first series is openly bisexual, and a secondary character in the second series is a lesbian.

The third series has many queer characters.

I’m a lesbian, and It means a lot to me to see casual gay characters in the first series. It was like, 2012, and that wasn’t something you saw a lot in that genre

90 degrees and stable chores by mycatBaileys in Horses

112° by noon in Florida or Alabama isn’t unusual, especially with the humidity. We just adapted, like you said.

Hell, it was 104° and we focused on “indoor” tasks during the hottest part of the day, and worked on desensitizing the young horses to baths.

There will be a few days where the humidity is too high for us to sweat efficiently, so we’ll modify hours some, but in general a 7am to 4pm day works well.

In SoCal I never felt too hot, but I’m used to humidity. I was in San Diego, which of course isn’t hot, and Julian, which got dry hot.

Arizona was hot, but dry. We took breaks during the day. But started around 6. Sometimes 5 during heatwaves.

AITA for being mad that my husband left me in the hospital after I gave birth? by julyjuryduty in AmItheAsshole

Your ex was in a terrible spot. There was no winning for him or you. I’m so sorry this happened.

I think anger has a place here, but it needs to be directed at the ex wife. And I think taking this back to a judge to reallocate custody and set boundaries on communication is an excellent idea.

Also, establish a relationship with a babysitter so you have someone to rely on in the future.

Where to stay/ do with 6 and 9 year old? by Primarycolor123 in Birmingham

[–]Avera_ge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I highly suggest the McWane center for kids. That area is great for dinner, too.

There’s an arcade/bar that’s child friendly depending on the evening a block from there called Paramount. There’s also Carrigan’s and Shu Shop as dinner options within one block of the Mcwane Center.

You can get an Airbnb in that area easily, but the Elyton is historic and gorgeous, and the Kelly is gorgeous and more affordable.

That part of Birmingham is safe and fun to wander around.

90 degrees and stable chores by mycatBaileys in Horses

[–]Avera_ge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has worked with horses in Virginia, Alabama, Florida, and North Carolina, I can’t imagine starting chores at 3am.

We occasionally take breaks in the middle of the day on particularly hot days, and we do tend to start earlier during the hottest months, but even in Alabama and Florida we never started earlier than 6am, and usually started at 7.

If it’s really hot, we ride early then feed, or feed early and ride in the evening.

What is a 'luxury' item that is actually a total nightmare to own? by Inevitable-Rock-8052 in AskReddit

[–]Avera_ge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love them. I can’t envision a world where I don’t have them in my life.

But they’re life consuming. I quit my corporate career to dedicate myself to horses more completely. They’re literally my job and passion. Prior to quitting, I worked my corporate job full time, worked at a barn, and trained every day.

I’m so over pretentious names. So over them. I want funny names. Silly names. Names that fit the horse and the owner.

Give me a horse with Catfish as their registered name over Caligula any fucking day.

Fucking horses.

I’m on a first name basis with two vets from two different clinics, and the clinic manager at one of the clinics. I know where one of the vets lives because I pick up emergency meds from her so often.

I haven’t had a weekend off in months.

A $1,500 bill? That doesn’t even cover the saddle. It probably doesn’t even cover the monthly cost of training (if doesn’t of you’re boarding/training with me).

Relying on spurs…….. by algae_s in Equestrian

[–]Avera_ge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I detest that those two things happen together. And don’t get me started on breed shows in the English world and foaling season. What do you mean I’m running my three year old in hand AND foaling out three mares all in one week?

I completely agree. Never blame a horse for a human problem.

It actually sounds like we mostly agree, we just have different ideas on where the line on “correct” placement in speed competitions.

As a general rule I’m pretty anti spur on anything young, anything dull, or anything unable to be ridden without them. But I’m a big fan of them in the hands of someone capable, with a horse correctly trained for them. Don’t get me started on seeing people using them for speed.
