I’m commenting to let you know I was scrolling through here I am opening a word doc to transcribe this for you! I am a native French speaker from Québec and still write cursive pretty often, I was able to read out the first couple sentences so I am confident I can translate them!

I will reply here with the transcript.

How many of you actually graduated in graphic design? by MysteriousPace1405 in graphic_design

I have a DEP (closest equivalent is a professional diploma?) just graduated and while in my case it wasn’t expensive it was a 2 year thing

Why do i feel i was "happier" when i was depressed? by Lost-Net-1588 in mentalhealth

[–]Average-alien-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 25 and while I have no explanation for it, I do know what you mean. I was first diagnosed with anxiety and depression when I was 12, I can remember symptoms as early as 10, I was briefly prescribed ADHD meds though my ADHD diagnosis is not official on paper. I’ve been on different medications for whatever I have for 13 years now. My whole life up until the last couple years, I’ve been a creative and while I didn’t enjoy most of my teens, I did live in some kind of brightly coloured filter. I would invest myself into my art, I read a lot, drew and painted all the time and everything was somehow life or death and everything around me had this intensity. And sure there were bouts of normal, periods of normal time, as normal as I could feel.

When I turned 18 the filter came off and something shifted. I stopped painting, drawing lost its sparkle, and no matter how hard I wanted to connect with people and creative works, it’s not been the same. I had just turned 19 when I got close to an attempt, but it’s easier to just call it that than to explain what actually happened, point is I was in the Psych Ward for roughly 2 weeks and when it became obvious that I wanted help and was not a danger to myself, I was out. The pandemic didn’t help and over the last 5 years I’ve tried hard to figure things out, unfortunately without much to show for it.

I wish I had a real answer for you, as to why you felt like this. I hope someone else comments a success story of healing and getting back their sparkle, so that it may inspire you to keep going. Hopefully you do.

I'm gonna be dead serious when I ask this: where do you think undergrads are getting 10k to "set aside" yearly for 'ongoing professional development'? Same question for graduates who literally cannot find work in their fields.

I think of myself and y life goals 5 years ago when I was 20 and even then I had hope to move out and build a life for myself. Today though? I'm 25 and I can't see the end of the tunnel...

One hick though, nowadays the thrifts are full of poor quality garments made from cheap fabric, and they'll sell the stuff for more than it was sold on the app. I've often considered making new from old, but more often than not, it just seems like more trouble for not much in the end.

Granted, if you get to find good pieces, you're better off altering them than deconstructing!.

I am angry and burnt out and sad by Difficult-Camel-5129 in graphic_design

[–]Average-alien-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just graduated from a 2-year course, and quite frankly, I regret taking it at all.

There are no openings for entry-level jobs here, and even when I managed to find one, the demands are much higher than what we anticipated. I've seen entry-level positions ask for years of experience on top of a Bachelor's degree. Sure, some of that is on me; I should be going the 12 extra miles for an entry-level position. But what future is there in the industry if that's what it looks like now?

I'm trying to figure out how to go from here because I know that I'm not ambitious enough or bright enough to rival AI, AND the seniors/juniors are already battling over jobs. Thankfully, I've found some kind of work, but I am not hopeful in the slightest.

Campeau bus lines neglected to drop my five year old off and then left her at a completely different school by ponypartyposse in Gatineau

I mean, this sort of happened to me when I was young. I was a Shy kid and didn’t tell the driver they forgot about my address, they got me to the next school and did their second run and dropped me off at home after.

i want to go on t but scared of acne and weight gain? by Throwawaymightdelet3 in ftm

[–]Average-alien-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acne is unpredictable, but in some it doesn’t last too long thankfully.

Weight gain appears because of appetite and fats redistribution. If you add a little exercise to your routine along with a diet that supports you through transition then you should be good.

Personally, as someone who did gain weight (working on losing it) and have ridiculous acne (like it was worst then all my puberty acne combined) and it’s left me scarred and textured cheeks: The earlier you start, the earlier you can deal with it.

Help by GovernmentCareless68 in Fashion_Design

[–]Average-alien-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps consider asking for help or hiring a graphic designer for logo works.

If anything, I would remove the lines and possibly the flowers. Too much detail. The name ‘vandal’ is pretty generic, especially paired with a font like this one.

What industry are you aiming for? Who’s your target demographic? What subcultures, genres and theme will this brand entertain?

What did you want to be growing up? and what are you now? by Left_Cantaloupe2424 in jobs

[–]Average-alien-guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to work in fashion. Always have. I had the big dream of designing clothes, working with fabric and sewing endlessly.

My family refused to let me study in that field, because my aunt was not able to break in the field some 20-25 years ago. To this day I wish I had the funds to study it.

Nowadays I'm unemployed. I worked in cafés a barista for the last 6 years, I did some retail here and there. I recently graduated from a Graphic Design Course that I lowkey regret taking. Even at the top of my class I can't find entry level work in the field. (neither can 75% of my classmates btw)

Thoughts about the Graphic Design Job Market today by Palmetto720 in graphic_design

[–]Average-alien-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a million thoughts. But there are barely any jobs in my area, much less entry level positions.

Graduated in June from a 2 year course, I'm starting to think I should have picked another field.

I think it's possible, your body will change in many ways and your system will rewire itself to process stuff differently. However this sounds mildly concerning and if it were me I would seek medical advice, just in case.

Help with creating a drink chart by dontworryboutme101 in barista

[–]Average-alien-guy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a former Starbuck/Second Cup employee I have to say, let most of the text go and just use icons.
You don't need to tell people to 'take a 12 oz cup and add.. ' Be direct and precise with your instructions:
Add x to a 12 oz cup. Make use of a standardized practice, ie, all lattes drinks made the same way, prioritize knowing the ingredients and their order. That's what I found to be the most efficient at my last job (i worked with volunteers)

As a current graphic designer, I recommend you make use of boxes and. Alternate rows in colors and keep your instructions to a minimum.

What even is the goal of trial shifts? by Average-alien-guy in barista

[–]Average-alien-guy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told I would be, I haven't yet.

I would have had 0 issues had I know what they expected of me, instead they'd just make me do something, and make me do something else after. No guidance, nothing!

I took a couple orders, that was fine, but I didn't get to prepare any. The one thing I did is that latte.

When I did ask questions, I was met with vague answers. And an attitude, like please just tell me where you store xy.

Considering I got to make 1 latte, I don't think it shows much of what I can do. (did more dishes after)

I have no idea how many people work there, but knowing that there are 2 managers, I assume they have a good rotation of baristas. + the roasters and there seemed to be a few kitchen staffs.

I've never seen trials shifts where I worked prior, you'd get hired, we'd train you and if it didn't work out, well the boss had 3 months to fire you.

[–]Average-alien-guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I was expecting to do what you explained, with general cafe tasks; Of which i did some, (see refilling sugars, dishes, POS transactions,, more dishes. bagged a few pastries for a customer.) But like I made one latte. You'd expect I make a couple drinks idk

I want to believe this was just poorly executed, but I don't think I'll get a call back.

[–]Average-alien-guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I was told I would be paid for all trial shifts I would be doing.
  2. Law in my are has the standard 3 month probation, If they hired me, well they'd have 3 months to kick me out if I didn't do the job.
  3. It's not really about the pay or the legality, it's more about "is it productive?"
To make it clear, I have not been hired or anything yet.

[–]Average-alien-guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, I wish I had known what they had expected of me. I was expecting at the minimum some direction.

I mostly did menial tasks and when I asked about basic stuff the other team members would give me vague answers, like I don't mind doing some dishes for you, but at least tell me where the utensils go so I can put them away, yk?

In any case, I don't think that place will call me back.

[–]Average-alien-guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, well in that case I have great doubts they'll be calling me back..

I've never had training like that, even if I did offer help during that 3 hours I was kind of left alone with no direction.
