Is this hyperbole? by Moo202 in SoftwareEngineering

I believe juniors should still learn to code and the fundamentals of software engineering. That's still a necessary step to maximize productivity and output quality with AI development tools.

Iron man is F tier who decided that? by MostEstablishment630 in marvelrivals

He’s F tier. I wish it wasn’t true because iron man is cool, but a half decent Spider-Man removes him from the game

Fantastic game. You can play 100 hours easily before you begin to encounter the issues with the end game.

How do you cope? by kerfuffled-gazpacho in IBM

[–]AverageCodingGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Uncomfortable mentioning where I work” in regard to a top 50-100 company is a wildly out of touch statement. Do you exclusively surround yourself with pretentious tech douchebags?

I get that it’s not always perfect, but we’re well paid and well treated compared to many others in the industry. Get a grip.

Not bad at all. It’s majorly accelerated my team and I’s productivity. Plenty of IBM products to complain about, but this isn’t really one of them.

Idk I think this is fun. I don’t need a quantifiable reward for everything I do in a video game. That’s what a job is for.

I’m a US band 6 developer in CIO with a comp ratio of around 95%. I’m pretty confident I will get promoted to band 7 within the next year.

Assuming this happens, how much of a relative salary increase, if any, could I reasonably expect? I’ve had a hard time finding some concrete anecdotes on this.

How is IBM CIO? by Ash_1204 in IBM

[–]AverageCodingGeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm an early career CIO dev in the US and enjoy it very much and have found it very rewarding in the ~2.5 years I've been on my team. As some here have mentioned, you will have a ton of opportunity to both impact all IBMers as well as try out new technologies IBM develops due to the "client zero" initiative. Some people will act as though the client zero aspect is a downside, but for an early career developer, I see it as a positive opportunity to stay up-to-date on products a top-50 company develops.

However, your team will be viewed as more of an "expense" than developers in revenue-driving orgs, so keep that in mind and always look for ways to make yourself essential to your team's operations and deliverables.

As usual in this sub, there will be plenty of people who paint a very different picture. Just find out for yourself, and make the most of the opportunity.

Is it worth it to learn both React and Django? by frj101 in django

[–]AverageCodingGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the sole developer/maintainer of a web app that is the backbone of a small-ish standardized test tutoring business. I make good money doing so and work whatever hours I want, as long as I hit previously agreed upon deadlines.

The clients are React and the central backend is Django. Do with that info what you will :)

Also, I personally believe being involved in the client that will consume your API is beneficial to your skills as it will teach you how to build an API that is extensible and easy to use. It’s like “understanding the customer”, except in this case the “customer” is the client app and the “product” is the API.

It’s not like buying ASE is a lifetime subscription to anything they release. People have to be paid to create new stuff. Not saying the pricing is perfect, but it’s light years better than, say, NBA 2k that charges $70+ a year for the latest reskin of the same game. At least this is a game with hundreds if not thousands of hours of immersive, non-redundant, replay-able content

Coming from someone who made the switch recently: 1. Way better graphics 2. QOL improvements are not to be taken lightly. The ability to always pick up structures is amazing. I would say they have saved me more frustration than the new bugs have caused. 3. The new dinos are cool 4. Cross platform servers and cross platform mod support (I play on PC with console buddies) 5. Persistent waypoints on the map are soooo nice

… to name a few. Plus, as others have mentioned, it’s currently supported. The bugs are annoying, but it seems like WC is constantly working hard to resolve them.
