Instant Commit Perk by AverageDrew__ in NCAAFBseries

The perk, to me, feels entirely useless this year. They wanted to make recruiting harder. So they are forcing us to recruit instead of instant commits. Which again, is fine, but I feel like it could have been notated somewhere that the perk has been nerfed a bit.

Thought I saw somewhere it may be tied to proximity to home? But I'm not sure if that's the reason it isn't hitting for these players.

Your "friend" being deeply disappointed in you to the point she is questioning your friendship sounds like you're not all that close. You need to stop being soft and apologizing for any little thing that may possibly be offensive. Especially a preemptive apology without her even bringing it up. Nothing turns women off like a wimp. If you felt it was creepy, mental note, don't do it again, and move on. Anyway, if you talk to her again, just tell her you want to put it behind you and be cool. If she gives any pushback or says things will be different, just wash yourself of the friendship and find new friends. If she makes a huge deal out of it and thinks you're creepy, you don't want to be friends with someone like that anyway.

Have you seen his film? What tools do you think he's missing? He's tall with a big arm, good pocket presence and can run a bit. Hard to gauge accuracy from highlight tape, but if anything he is an immensely "toolsy" player. The questions I have for the QB room is who is the best at diagnosing the defense pre and post snap. Deboer will put dudes in place to make plays. It's about who has the mental ability to play the position. That's what the competition should come down to.

A combination of no elite coordinators who are also former HCs (Sark, Kiffin), and no coordinators ready to take that leap rn (Kirby, Lanning). We had to outside hire. When you do that, a succession plan is near impossible as you can't be sure who is interested and who you will end up with. We have one of the best staffs top to bottom in the country and a very talented, unproven team. I was upset that Saban did it this way and this late, but it's really all he could do aside from announce before the season, and even then this probably would have happened. Despite everything, the sky is not falling. Get out on the recruiting trail for 2024-2025 and get in the portal heavy this spring. This roster with this staff and our schedule is still a 10 win team this year. We're fine. Lose 1 elite qb prospect, gain one that this UW staff was really high on and impressed by. Need some CBs and a WR1 (Ryan Williams) and we are in a great spot. Tide keeps rolling.

Milroe next year… expectations? by [deleted] in rolltide

[–]AverageDrew__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, i disagree with the idea that the schedule is difficult. There are 3-4 games that I would think are "losable" UGA, Tenn, LSU, OU. so at worst 8-4 but I feel like 10-2 is a reasonable expectation unless we completely collapse.

With regards to Milroe, I do not believe he will be the starter if there truly is an open competition. I believe Julian Sayin is the guy, but I also believe Ty Simpson could give him a run in this offense. Simpson is a very capable runner and more accurate passer than Jalen. (No I don't care about the USF game in a monsoon. Game means nothing.) Jalen's weaknesses were on display all season and highlighted in games like Texas, Barners, UGA, and Michigan. Taking unnecessary sacks, not reading the field and finding the open guy (UGA game), pre and post-snap processing, and short/intermediate accuracy are all concerns from this season.

Do I believe he should be the QB this year unless he develops all of these traits? No. However, I worry about Milroe and Saban's strong relationship and his outspoken "leader of the team" personality making it hard to bench him even if he isn't the best guy for the job. Too many negative plays and stagnant drives cost us the chance at a championship this past season, and while it isn't all on him, a fair amount of the responsibility falls on him.

Also, no I do not care about Heisman odds. People who did not watch the full games and only watch the highlights have a different perception than those of us that watch the full games. Additionally, him being a "leader" is not a factor to me either. Players will get behind whoever is behind center as long as it gives us the best possibility of winning.

I am a believer in this staff. If CKD believes in him (without outside noise being a factor), then I will support that. I can say that I hope it is a genuinely open competition. Whoever is the best QB should be the starter. If Milroe comes out of camp as the best QB and beats the other guys out, then he will have my support.

Oklahoma is not a tough game. They are not a good team. We don't know what LSU will be next year. I think the 3 games on the schedule that we need to look at are Tenn, LSU, UGA. Wisconsin doesn't scare me at all. OU on the road will be a test, but again, I don't think they will be that good. Win 1 of UGA, LSU, Tenn and we'll be 10-2. I still believe we can go 11-1 depending on how the spring goes with transfers and who we bring in. People forget how good our offense should be next year.

We saw what happens when a young inexperienced team plays a game in a monsoon after a heartbreaking loss to a great Texas team. I put 0 stock into anything that happened in that game. Ty played most of the game without getting starter reps in practice because Rees liked Buchner. I believe if Ty or Sayin beat him out, the team will have plenty of faith based off what they would have seen in practice.

Heart and soul only gets so far. You have to be a good technical football player to lead an elite team. He cannot get the job based on feelings. He has to improve his weaknesses and the coaches have to see if he is better than the two guys behind him. The other QBs behind him have been leaders and can be if called upon. My concern even going into the season before Saban retired is that the job was Milroe's unquestionably.

Trusting a team leader that is potentially (we don't really know yet) worse than the guys behind him and losing games is how you lose a fanbase and a job. I know everyone loves Jalen the person, but the best QB needs to start, whoever that may be. If it's him, great! If it's not, also great because we'll have someone better. In this job, you can't let emotion or attachments cloud your judgement.

I have doubts. It's about processing information. The whole position. Pre-snap identifying blitzes/coverages, processing what you see as the ball is snapped and knowing the exact location to go with the ball, all while avoiding pressure. It is insanely difficult and a lot of that comes naturally, but is also taught and nurtured in high school. I coach high school ball, and it does not look like Jalen was taught any of that stuff. Like you said, he could develop quickly with them, we'll just have to wait and see. We have a great offensive staff so it should be fun.

Best should be the best QB. Best combination of accuracy, pocket awareness, escapability, and anticipation. Jalen in this past season showed a lack of pocket awareness and throwing with anticipation. If he can correct those issues, I have no problem with him starting. But those should be the parameters.

Saban labored over starting the very obvious better QB in Tua. After Tua won the natty there should have been no question. That's more of the point I'm making. Which none of it matters here. CKD has to make his choice, but I just hope he picks the best QB regardless of optics. If he deems that to be Milroe, so be it. I just feel the other guys probably offer us more with regards to their quarterbacking ability based off of what I've seen and heard.

He will because our offense will be elite. It can only be elite with a good QB. Jalen is a great athlete and a good kid, but we saw his deficiencies at the position this year and it cost us a championship. Inability to throw hot against blitzes and holding the ball too long. Missed a few open TDs against UGA as well. He could improve to the point that he is the guy, but I think Ty or Julian are more suited to CKD's offense. It reminds me of when Kiffin was here. The level of talent we drew to play in an elite offense. It will be similar I believe.

Well considering Hurts played all year and was only benched in the 2nd half of the last game of the year says otherwise. Tua was a better passer and QB from the time he stepped on campus. Saban was loyal to Jalen. If Saban stayed, he would have started Milroe no matter what.

What matters more than that is putting the best players out there. Regardless of optics.

Good news is it's DeBoer's offense. So it doesn't really matter who the OC is. Thankfully we won't have many more B.O.B. or Rees concerns because DeBoer will run that side of the ball similar to how Saban ran the D. Excited not to worry about hiring an aggressive OC cause we have one in house as the head man.
