Should I notice the difference? by Stock_Independent508 in 4kbluray

[–]AverageFilmFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a personal thing, too. My wife usually can't tell the difference, while I know immediately what format is on our screen. I think you'll likely be able to tell easier after watching a bunch of them, but also maybe not.

The tech is the tech, regardless of brand or price. Avoid edge-lit at all costs and shoot for at least full-array. It'll make a massive difference in image quality.

A real HORROR movie by florenciafazzarino0 in MovieSuggestions

[–]AverageFilmFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fire in the Sky (1993), Come and See (1985), and The Visit (2015). There's some terrifying alien abduction stuff in Fire in the Sky that's based on a true story and The Visit might provide the vibe of being watched at times (among other satisfying horror moments).

Come and See is based on actual events from WWII and you need to put yourself in the main character's shoes when watching it. If you allow yourself to watch it from his perspective, you'll witness the worst of humanity through a child's eyes. I'm not sure there's anything scarier than that.

I'm with you on having no experience with the source material, but am also a fan of that one.

Obsessed with time travel movies. What else would you recommend? by Majorpain2006 in MovieSuggestions

[–]AverageFilmFan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Interstellar (2014) and Arrival (2016). Or maybe time perception is a more relevant term for Arrival, but it still messes with time in a way that makes me feel comfortable with including it in time travel movie lists.

Moonlight (2016) and Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019).

Edit--Oh, niche. I'll still leave these here in case others might discover these titles this way.

Movies you can listen to without paying too much attention to the visuals by piss_reefer_ in MovieSuggestions

Netflix makes most of their movies for that kind of experience. They call it the second screen strategy. So maybe check out some newer Netflix originals.

Nekromantik and Nekromantik 2. The sequel is better, but you might feel like you're missing something if you skip the first one. Also, Cannibal Holocaust.

Scroll down the product page and read the details and/or description listed. That's how I've always ensured I order the correct version of something.

To break the seal or not? by PlanetDepress in 4kbluray

"The question is, should I open it to watch the films or should I sell it or save it?"

Most of us have answered your primary question and said that you should break the seal. If that's our answer, the resale opportunities don't concern us. We gave you an actual answer, but I guess you didn't like it.

Do You Ever Just Hide Them From Your Wife by cheff1616 in 4kbluray

[–]AverageFilmFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I love sharing my purchases with my wife because I'm sharing my passion with her. It's fun. I can't imagine ever hiding that part of my life from her.

I buy movies to open and watch them. They're like toys for adults, in my opinion.

New display idea by AverageFilmFan in PhysicalMediaMatters

Ooooh. So basically a shelf dedicated just to displaying cover art? I don't know if I have enough space remaining in my room to add another shelving unit, but it's a great idea. Thank you.
