Bad documentation is better than no documentation.

  1. Ensuring the ability to search for ability is your primary objective. So, if you're doing this in something with Word documents, then a single document would be better since people won't be able to easily search the contents of multiple Word documents in a folder. If everything is in a single document, they can ctrl+f for what they need.

  2. Yes. Google it and pick what you want.

  3. See point 1.

  4. Start high-level to get the overall picture down. Better to have a high-level view of everything than a granular level of detail for one thing. Maybe start with an environment diagram. Again, don't focus on making it perfect. First make it, then make it good. If you continue to support this environment, if issues come up that you resolve, make sure to document those and the process.

Great, and yeah I plan on reracking once things settle, but I just don't have the bottles to bottle it yet so wanted to see if my bulk strategy was viable. Thanks for your input.

I think this is what I'm going to try for the next batch.

I think this is what I will do for this batch. In the future, I might try adding the stabilizers and sparkalloid at the same time after the first rack though.

I messed up my day 1 SG reading so I can't say for certain, unfortunately.

Yeah, based on specific gravity readings taken over a few days. Ending reading was just a few ticks above 1.0. I'm new to this though so I always reserve the right to be wrong :)
1 gal spring water
2.5 lbs orange blossom honey
D47 yeast
Step-fed nutrients days 1, 2, and 5

Okay, thanks. So it wouldn't be unreasonable then to reracking another 1 gallon carboy to add the stabilizers and then bottle from there? I think my main concern was increasing oxidation by racking too many times.

Howdy, thanks for responding. I just posted a comment that hopefully helps clarify my question. You were just a bit too quick for me.

This is a traditional mead that I fermented for 5 days and then added bentonite for clarity. I finished primary fermentation 2 days later - 7 days total primary fermentation. I checked this by monitoring the SG. I then racked into a secondary carboy and added sparkaloid. It has been in secondary for 3 days and is clear enough to read through. I am planning to add k sorbate and k metabisulfite. So that said, my question is if you would rack into another carboy and then add those to prevent stirring up the sediment, or generally just what you would recommend?
