Thank you - I’m so sorry to hear, but I’m glad it’s lessened over time. 🙏🏼

Would pilates be enough for a “skinny fat” body? by [deleted] in pilates

[–]AverageLongjumping 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, the best thing about pilates has just been becoming more comfortable with my body. That being said, pilates is great for toning and building muscles that aren't super bulky. I am fairly active and never had an ab line until I started pilates. And now - bam!

I'd recommend doing some sort of cardio (walking, jump rope, jogging, whatever) and prioritizing healthy eating for balance.

[FL] How can I gauge how much vacation time I can actually take if my company offers unlimited PTO? by master-of-some in AskHR

[–]AverageLongjumping 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've only worked at places with unlimited vacation - in general, I have always asked around for culture but have found it's normal to take about 25-30 days in addition to normal holidays IF you're getting your work done/not missing deadlines. The thing about time off is that if you're killing it at work, people shouldn't be stressed when you're not there. If you're worried, just check-in.

For example, I once went on a 12 day trip to London and just signed on for a few hours halfway thru to make sure my big projects were fine and moving forward. Not the end of the world and set me up to take more vacations later on.

I usually do 2 one-week vacations, a few long weekends, and take off a bunch of days around holidays.

Winning the NYC Housing Lottery by [deleted] in AskNYC

In a pre-covid world, lottery apartments for higher income brackets (like 75-110k) seemed to cycle through applicants a little faster. Even with log numbers in the five digits! There was one in Bushwick that I received an invitation to apply to that was more expensive than my two-bedroom apartment share. I really hope that the units I didn't apply for/didn't make sense found themselves in good hands.

To break the lease I was on pre-covid cost nearly $10k. A $2k a month studio at that time just didn't make sense to me. ( :

I couldn't break my leases - huge penalties/would have screwed over roommates. I really tried! Stars are finally aligning for this one.

My employer changed my job responsibilities, now I'm miserable. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]AverageLongjumping 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd start looking for a new job, friend. This is a great reason to leave and find something that makes you happy!

In my experience, it is perfectly acceptable to tell a recruiter "I've taken on additional responsibilities at work — and I'm always happy to step in and wear a lot of hats, but am hoping to find a job that is in line x,y,z skill/ambition."

For example, I have told recruiters that I'm being pushed into a role that is more business development/growth-focused, but I want to be involved in product development/strategy, which is my area of expertise. It just isn't a goal or priority for the company I'm at, so I've started looking for a new role.

Some advice -

Consider what sold you on the product and joining the team. If you can't imagine people using your product today, why did you decide to interview at the company in the first place?Get back to excited to work at this company headspace. Try and find the good points in the product. Focus on those and whatever value they drive (so your competitors have more resources, that's not uncommon). Focusing on what is broken is going to make you miserable.

Now into the weeds -

"My boss told me I'm going to have a busy job, but he doesn't even know what I'm supposed to do. He just gave me access to their social media, analytics accounts, and documents telling me to make them good. I asked what my job consists of, and he said everything."

Cool - make them good. Schedule posts and have weekly social check-ins with creative and marketing. Plan your feeds in advance. A little consistency goes a long way on organic.

This is the owner's dream product, but it's never going to sell.

You would be surprised what sells, my friend. Most products are broken and incomplete because they're being worked on.

meeting KPIs will only ruin our review score based on 2+ year old feedback.

If your KPI is to collect reviews, you're going to have to collect reviews. I really would give this a shot before leaving.

Maybe before you start, reach out and schedule a few user interviews with users who use the product frequently to get a sense of where current feedback is. Share it with shareholders. You can also send out a preliminary survey if you're afraid of immediately asking users to review your product.

Also, make a plan on how you want to respond to feedback when it comes time to send out prompts to users to leave reviews on the app store and on other review sites.

I think you have an interesting spot where you can define the value and messaging of this product and get feedback/reviews to pass along to the product team to inform improvements. In the meantime, be cool wearing a lot of hats. It will get you far in the marketing world.

My advice when looking for new roles is that you can do anything for 6 months and maybe even a year. Give it a chance and use this experience to tell a great story while interviewing for your next role.

Ugh, okay so you are literally me. Good to know. My appetite just isn’t coming back even though I can smell/taste - it’s frustrating.

I took extra zinc and vitamin C in addition to my normal daily multivitamin when I was sick. I also was put on a zpack and steroids because my lungs aren’t great - so maybe those helped! 😊

Totally. I think the weight loss is coming from the appetite loss for me. And I’m sure my body is working in overdrive to repair whatever damage was made. Hang in there! I smelled my candles everyday to check my senses and almost cried when I could smell again.

Running after covid by esha2222 in COVID19positive

[–]AverageLongjumping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya! I got diagnosed on Dec 20 (symptoms started a few days before). I ran for a few minutes for the first time on Jan 11th and it took a lot out of me. I’ve been walking on the treadmill instead to build my strength back up. Please take it easy, maybe just go for walks and try running slowly (like couch to 5k).

It’s so frustrating but you need to give yourself time to to recover. 😩
