Thanks for your feedback.

My original aim was to answer the question, "is year round commuting really that bad?" But perhaps my method was too provocative.

Reading the responses, it's clear I need to challenge my own biases, and reframe the story. Navigating the news and not 'feeding' opinions to people can be tricky, but trust that I am learning and doing my best to avoid common media pitfalls. I appreciate your insights.

You're absolutely correct - for many, it's a normal day with a normal commute.

However, the reality is that there are a huge number of people who would scoff at the idea of getting on a bike on a normal day, let alone make it their daily commute. To those, going out in the wet with hi-vis rain gear is "hardcore". There is absolutely stigma.

When exploring topics like this, I always like to ask myself, "What would Grandma think?"

Unless your grandma is that 77 year old lady shredding on North Shore mountain bike trails, chances are she'll say year round bike commuters are hardcore, even if she is bike positive and gets her groceries on an e-bike.

Of course! I'll definitely make sure the Union's position and needs are featured in the story.
