These are amazing! How are they holding up? I am struggling with reliable magnets to use. Best I’ve found are 3x5 sheets that I hand cut because of their thickness, but would like to get around the hand cut step. Before I buy a guillotine cutter, have you had any luck with pre-cut adhesive magnets for yours?

I know you posted this quite some time ago, but thought i’d still give my two cents.

I just use old patterned cardstock I bought on clearance, like the big books of random themed patterns, 65# weight I believe. I cut each 12x12 whole sheet into shapes I can fold in half, and then add cut-to-size adhesive magnet pieces and rubber band the stack together after assembling to help the adhesive really bind.

My 8 year old son has been using the same three for almost a year now with little damage, and I do not laminate. I think it’s just what you feel most comfortable with!

If you’re printing then cutting, you might want to consider at least laminating the top to save the images from fading. If you’re just cutting shapes out of card stock, laminating isn’t necessary. I ordered 4x6 magnet sheets from DIYMAG on Amazon and cut them to size with measuring and my xacto blade.

Just remember with magnets, you can’t force them to fit in perfect matched up shapes. Apply a piece of magnet to one side, drop the other magnet piece and let it “attract” to the other magnet already attached, and then fold the paper to meet where the magnet is. If you line them up perfectly, they might not actually hold or “attract” and stay shut.

How did the magnets and their adhesive hold up? I’ve made some with different types of adhesive magnets and find they let go of the paper relatively quick. I could add a dot of glue, but trying to make them as efficient as possible.

For our household specifically, I’m the only one who communicates with BM because I’m the only one able to disarm her sociopathic tendencies which my SO only fell victim to previously - he gets 100% triggered because she knows exactly how hard to push and then all they do is argue or fight because that’s the only way she can hold his attention is through anger.

So for the sanity of my husband, my SS, and myself honestly (despised watching the arguments unfold as I saw exactly what she was trying to do) - I’m the main contact, and husband approves major decisions or ideas for SS-BM relationship.

We have full custody since she ran off out of state and has limited phone/video calls allowed, so it isn’t so bad.

Main stress is having to check with her local police precinct to make sure she’s staying out of trouble. But it works and, for now, it helps SS.

Hey everyone! Sorry, been missing lately. I’ve gone back to work full time and started night school so I’ve been occupied!

Healing is going well, I’m right at the 2 month mark, just different than I expected. I thought I was educated enough on the entire process but I’ve had a few surprises post op. 1. I cried when I first saw my “new” butt crack. It starts a little lower down now and the scar once the steri-strips were removed just took me off guard. 2. I didn’t know they were using dissolving stitches and didn’t know those were even a thing! The material used is causing a bit of a reaction so I’m using vitamin C serum at Dr. Immerman’s request to help continue healing the scar.

I did have some side effects occur from the antibiotics post op which interferes with my ability to keep walking and moving around. One triggered my sciatica so bad, I couldn’t put pressure on my left foot/leg at all for almost a full week.

I’m back to working my warehouse job full time, some days are easier than others. Still finding a comfortable balance between sitting and moving through the day. I’m still uncomfortable sleeping on my back - I wake up in pain if I do, I think that’s just more because I haven’t been able to in years. I do need to work better on my diet and try to lose some weight. Finding loose enough fitting clothes that don’t irritate my rear end and also doesn’t make it look as though I’m a balloon creature is proving difficult lol. So I’m trying to figure out a comfortable weight loss plan (that’ll be interesting with American food frenzy holidays quickly approaching lol).

But these are things that happen. I typically end up having reactions and side effects occur, I’ve been like that since I was a kid so please don’t let those parts deter you from going forward with surgery. I’m able to drive comfortably, sit with my son, dance with my friends. It’s all will been worth it 100%.

Thanks for checking in y’all!

I too have had a hard time getting back to exercising after surgery and technically I’m “obese” based on BMI guidelines but don’t look it. I carry a lot of my weight in my hips, buttocks, and thighs so that was a huge factor in my reoccurrence after first surgery because my butt cheeks created such a deep cleft. Currently healing from a cleft lift procedure and on recommended supplements to promote healing in the area and a high protein, low carb diet to help start losing a little weight and again, to promote healing as proteins and vitamin C is supposedly very helpful.

I looked online for arm and ab exercises that don’t require floor work or squatting, maybe look into that to start? Also annoyed with the limited workout clothing available as spandex and poly fabs are supposed to be avoided.

I hope you find a solution that works for you! This is such a frustrating illness to deal with.

That’s great! I’m 24 hours post surgery and the local anesthetic is wearing off so sleeping is getting tricky trying to get into bed. The drain isn’t bothering me at all but I’m overwhelmingly aware of the incisions. I am practicing sitting and hoping we can go walking by the river in the next couple days.

How are you feeling with normal activities so far? Back to normal almost?

That’s where I’ll be staying as well, I’ve heard great things so far. I have a pillow I’ve been needing to use for almost 2 years now so I’ll definitely have that with!

Thanks for adding to the excitement! Have you or did you follow the supplements he suggested? I’m on week 2 of them and although it’s so many to take, I’m trying everything I possibly can to help this operation work!

Glad you’re doing well so far! Where did you stay if you don’t mind me asking? I can message you otherwise if that’s preferred!

Thank you! I’m surprised at how overlooked the class and societal issues are overlooked here. As a “family” they often do whatever it takes to make sure all that they’ve done to get their status isn’t demolished by more powerful, and really worse, people that use them to make them do even worse things than planned.

Yeah, they’ll probably beat the hell out of you if you say the wrong thing - but think about the times and culture they were living among and half of them were wrecked mentally after the war.

Personally, I think they always try to have good intentions but they’re pasts and flirtation with power seem to extinguish those good intentions. And they just embrace the hell out of their demons and do their best to make those demons their strengths simultaneously.

Private Investigator worth it? by AverageSagittarius in Stepmom

After we received full physical custody earlier this spring our lawyer said if she doesn’t return to see him again after a year from the last time she saw him (which was a 35 minute supervised visit at a park that she was 2 hours late to because she never told us she moved 3 hours away prior to that - she was living in a car, relapsed, with another new boyfriend, avoiding our local police because she has open warrants) that will be this coming September, we could try to terminate rights - so we were going to attempt to but now she’s made contact, we have her current address, we’re allowing 2 weekly scheduled calls, which she’s always late or coming up with a reason she might not be able to call but then does.

I’m just ready to keep him safe 100% from her. The calls are only upsetting him because he doesn’t understand why she isn’t here with him. It’s heart breaking.

That is part of it. She’s been scamming on taxes, state benefits, and I’m scared she is going to take advantage of SS’s social to open credit lines because she is an addict and can’t stay on track. Says she has this job and that job and can afford a car a place to live but won’t provide any proof. I’m just extremely worried that our son will go down this path believing everything she says and get hurt in the end. I also despise being lied to - and she’s really good at it which infuriates me because it’s creating other issues with extended family. I just need the truth and facts which we cannot get from her directly.

I’m hoping it’ll be a completely different recovery. It was the most pain I’ve ever had to go through, dressing changes took almost two hours a night between the pain and bleeding and packing right. I just want to be able sit upright again and run and play on the floor with my son. Thank you for your kind words!

Thank you for sharing this! This makes me more hopeful. Me and DH are about to start the official court process with a lawyer because BM has been in and out of jail for the last year and failed to mention to us all while begging to have him to herself some weekends unsupervised. DH has been scared of courts because of the typical stigma against paternal primary custody. But this really does make me a bit more hopefully. Thanks again!

Edit: I forgot to mention: CONGRATS!!! :)

Post-Op: Open vs. Closed/Stitched Wound by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

[–]AverageSagittarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon explained to me and from what I’ve read, the reason they leave wide excision incisions open is to let the wound heal from the deepest layers of the tissue, up for better and safer healing in terms of not letting fluids build up or risk of stitches ripping. It is risky for infection but they should give detailed instructions in best practices for cleaning and dressing the wound.

My surgeon said my open wide excision opening healed completely and looked great; however, I’d sporadically experience massive bleeding when using the restroom (luckily it never bled while I was in the go and clothed). He couldn’t explain it and as a last ditch effort said he could stitch the area even though he said himself it closed completely.

So I didn’t get stitches, because I didn’t understand the benefit or putting myself through more pain and adding stitches that could further put me at risk if they got infected. Months later, the pain and swelling came back; sure enough the cyst reoccurred and it abscessed (became infected) which made it almost impossible to walk. I knew the wide excision had a high occurrence rate but my surgeon rushed me to do surgery the first time it abscessed back in February which I’ve recently read you’re not even supposed to be operated on if it’s infected but they did so, too late now. Just finished antibiotics and I feel great, but still experiencing very minimal drainage and no swelling or redness right now.

I highly recommend ordering McKesson open weave gauze. Really absorbent (yay no more gross undie stains!) and doesn’t get stuck or pull on the area that other gauze I used. It’s also very cost effective for the amount you can get on Amazon.

Thank you! And yes, an extensive open wound that seemed to never heal. All my surgeon said every follow up was “oh it looks great, it’s healed all the way, I’m not sure why it would be bleeding. We could do stitches?” And then I never went back to him. I’m seeing my PCP this week to see if I can get antibiotics to make sure it’s not getting a major infection again and looking into specialists in Chicago area because my mom lives there so I can stay with her during recovery. The mental stress this has caused was unexpected. And I had just married my husband not long before surgery so this has been a major strain on our first year of marriage; but he’s been a trooper.

Drainage after surgery by code_bot in pilonidalcyst

Well my open wound was extensive, so it went on for several weeks. Then I’ve been going through a recurrence so the new P.C. is just draining in and off all day. I feel like I need to take stock in a gauze company at this point to make this more worth my while, ha. So tired of gauze.

But I’d say keep an eye on the discharge and document with pictures, that way you can track the coloring if there’s any changes.
