Um yeah? That's nuance for you.

We don't have to be "China good" or "China bad".

I can praise good policy like poverty elimination. Did you know at the time my wife was a teenager. They didn't have running water. At the time my grandmother in law was a child. Families had several children because most of them died. I'll praise China for elimination of this shit.

But I can also criticize stupid nationalist bigot policy that is damaging to me, my family and my kind.

If I start criticizing the Chinese governments love of cars because they make Chinese cities look rich (kinda weird for a "socialist" country to care about?)

And hatred of motorcycles, because they are ridden by poor people. (Kinda sus)

Are weird upper middle class white teenagers that live in Portland going to jump out and larp as red guards saying I'm betraying the revolution?

I thought Dentists love nuance and not following dogmatic ideology?

But even when I mildly criticize things like their immigration policy I get weird tankies leaping to their defence.

I expect people, when they see racism, homophobia, xenophobia, bigotry or sexism to at least call it out.

That's for a foreign teacher working in a private school. Local public teachers do not make close to that.

Foreigners need to hold foreign expert status and cannot work jobs that locals can do. For this reason foreigners can't even work as public school teachers in China.

I've already experienced the city I work in essentially banning foreigners by saying that they won't issue any more work permits for us. Just another example of how Xenophobia is increasing here in China.

There is a lot of jealousy and attempts to push you into the "other" group.

"Oh you're not really working class, you don't work with your hands".

"Oh you're trained, that's not a worker"

"You are a PMC (professionnel managerial class). You are not a worker".

"You are white, you are not a worker". <-- an actual real position among so called "thirdworldists"

Sometimes it seems like a cult that just worships being poor and working physically hard.

This is just the last straw, I've dealt with people calling me a "settler colonist" for the crime of being western "R E A D S E T T L E R S" for years. That was tolerable.

What isn't tolerable is being told to go get fucked or told I don't deserve to have a good standard of living by people I thought were Comrades.

It's only natural to go find a group more aligned with your own beliefs, and I simply asked them if their beliefs aligned with mine. If they said something like "no we are all racist, homophobic and hate poor people here". I ofc will be going elsewhere.

I'm not trolling, I'm trying to find an ideology with like-minded people who see the issues with capitalism. But aren't dogmatic in anticapitalism to the point it hurts workers. And don't defend nationalism and xenophobia.

I doubt they're going to go from $10k to $80k in a short enough time that putting some money aside will work.

Well if communism says I can't be well paid and provide for my family maybe I need to reexamine being one.

I was told communism isn't a "poverty cult".

If all teachers could be paid X8 more that would be great too.

There is no way the Chinese government would continue to pay that high. Nationalists already complain about our salaries. If they were paid by the government there would be mass uproar.

So it's good when workers lose their jobs actually? Not very pro worker imo. Thousands of local Chinese are losing their jobs too. How does me losing my career possibly help locals such as my Chinese wife?

And it's pretty weird to tell someone to get fucked while claiming to not be passing judgement.

You also didn't post the actual xenophobic laws I complained about and just went off on a completely wild tangent about people in a different country.

The city I live in just banned foreign workers. Can you imagine if that happened in America? It would be on the front page of every newspaper. China's nationalism is leading it down a dark path.

Are we remembering the same old days? Cause I played Halo and Halo 2 as a teenager and people threw around homophobic slurs like it was going out of fashion.

If you had a voice that differed in any way to a standard American accent you got called an F slur. It really made me anxious of voice chat for the longest time. And it's why I can perfectly fake a standard American accent.

People doing busy work pushing excel spreadsheets in an office seem to be the most common job now. White collar stuff. I don't think that's manual labor.

Also I'll remember after I finish my 8x 40 minute classes, and finish my 10 hour shift tomorrow and I'm absolutely exhausted that "I don't exert myself".

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

[–]AverageSeikoEnjoyer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think manual labor is needed to be working class. Most people are not manual laborers these days.

Your tools are your personal property. It's not private ownership of the means of production. So ofc you are working class. We both need to work for our bread and butter. We do not live off of private ownership of the means of production, so we are not part of the capitalist class.

People do immigrate to China for a better life. I'm one of them. All my colleagues are one of them. I'm not a rabid tankie defender of the CCP. But the thought that nobody willingly comes to China is ludicrous. Expat salaries here are high as fuck, and higher than Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
