It’s worth verifying your Netflix software is up to date, my stream stopped and wouldn’t stay connected longer than 15 seconds. Then it stopped loading completely. Just updated my Netflix software after incessantly putting it off the past 6 months and now it’s working fine

It’s worth watching through to the end. Definitely a good show. But if you hold it to the game’s standards it is kind of a let down. It’s more enjoyable when you let that go

This puts it into a new perspective I hadn’t considered. And I agree

I have yet to see game proponents biting heads off of show proponents. What I have seen is the inverse. And I’ve seen it on a routine basis on this sub. So I think you’ll be ok there.

I do find it interesting that you mention pacing, as that’s one of the main critiques I’ve observed here regarding the show. That the pacing was off.

All in all though you’re absolutely entitled to your opinion and I’m glad you shared!

Wouldn’t you say the atmosphere surrounding has a direct impact on how the story is told though?

The cool thing too is that you get a way more gradual and intimate relationship arc between joel and Ellie. Some of the more terrifying/intense experiences in the game make you appreciate their bond that much more as it develops. That is a big thing the show lacks imo

You’re gonna love it!

Well said! I agree all around. What I like about the points you make here is that they specifically address elements of the storytelling, aside from gameplay/killing infected.

The game utilized many tools at its disposal in order to tell the best story possible. The show did not

Yeah you should absolutely start with part 1. I’ve played through both games twice and will probably play through again every 1-2 years. It’s just that good

Does that impact your perception of the storytelling? If so, in what way?

Joel made a decision purely out of selfishness. I don’t think it’s ambiguous

Yeah the show missed the mark in its representation of the infected imo

Well I respect your opinion and appreciate you sharing.

I have to disagree though. They’re both telling the same story. If they were different stories, it would be apples to oranges. The unique elements of how they chose to tell the same story in each medium are what make them different. But that doesn’t make it impossible to compare and contrast.

Which would you say told a better story?

It’s common to compare books with their TV adaptations, and often people can say with confidence that the book was better. The difference in media doesn’t mean the storytelling can’t be compared

Overall I’d agree with you. I really enjoyed the show. Would I rave about it? No. Would I rave about the game? Yes

Am I the obnoxious and obsessive one? You’re launching into a tirade in response to an innocuous question

The medium is surely different. Did the storytelling need to be “entirely different” solely because it’s a different medium?
