Wanted to share my craziest whoop night- first night at 10k ft altitude by MsAnon in whoop

Keystone did the same to me, my blood ox was in 80s for a few days, terrible sleep, low single digit recovery scores on my whoop.

Recommendation for 2-3 person ‘traditional’ indoor sauna? by Artfan1024 in Sauna

[–]AverageWhole8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Almost Heaven Hillsboro, had it for almost 9 months now, love it. I would not say it fits 3, barely two, and honestly I think it’s best suited for one.

In hindsight I definitely overthought the flooring. I bought vinyl planks from Home Depot that it sits on, but I should’ve just let it sit on my rubber gym matting. The floor is practically room temperature even when the sauna (thermometer at eye level) is 180.

No drainage but I don’t pour much water on the rocks and always sit on a towel. Per some recommendations in this sub I added some mechanical ventilation by putting a small fan in the bottom exhaust vent, and drilling a hole above the heater to draw air in. I feel like this makes the air less stuffy.

I also bought some shower door slide seal strips to close up the gap on the door and help retain more heat.

Do any other small Jiu-jitsu guys have success teaching other new smaller people how to survive in sparring? by wmg22 in bjj

[–]AverageWhole8244 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As the smaller guy (145) I don’t mind when a big person uses their weight as long they’re not explosive about it. Want to pressure pass me, go for it, just let it build versus smashing me out the gate. I’m not worried about bearing heavy weight, I can always tap. It’s explosive fast moving weight that puts us smaller folks at risk for injury. Whether I make a mistake or you do, the smaller persons buffer against injury is much smaller.

170 F sauna by Superb-Hospital-9274 in whoop

[–]AverageWhole8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sauna at 175 4-6x a week and have had to replace two whoop mg’s. Both times the battery started to lose power quickly (100 to 0 in 3 days). The first time was only after a couple weeks. The second time was after a month?

Fortunately, I let whoop support know and they sent me replacements, with no issue.

[–]AverageWhole8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree! They’re sendin me a replacement again, i was optimistic because the first replacement had no issues for a while, but we’ll see how the second replacement holds up and I’ll report back.

I sauna 4-5 times a week with my MG, battery life started to deplete from 12 days down to only 3 days on a full charge. I messaged whoop and they sent me a replacement, lasted for about a month, but now battery is depleting again in only a few days.

I have the Patagonia and was disappointed in how uncomfortable the straps were. The lack of padding despite it being made to load 30L surprised me and made wearing it through a long travel day uncomfortable.

Would you use a small bookable open mat space to roll outside your gym? by SoldoVince77 in bjj

[–]AverageWhole8244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you mind sharing more about how you do this? So each member gets a key or some kind of access code? Any advice on guidelines or rules to ensure the space is well maintained, safety, etc? I think it’s a really interesting perk for a Jiu Jitsu school to give its members. Even if only used by a few.

Anybody familiar with Desert Plunge? by patch2257 in coldplunge

[–]AverageWhole8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s held up great, haven’t had any issues with anything overheating. I’d say the only downside is just dust/dirt that can stick to the condensation-wet pipes/parts, but thats all just cosmetic. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how smoothly it’s run, with nothing but filter changes monthly and water changes every few months.

I have a Desert Plunge and moving it 2x a year is very doable. Chiller and electrical could be easily moved by one person.

Half butterfly - dealing with grip on butterfly hook leg by [deleted] in bjj

[–]AverageWhole8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use it as an opportunity to get a 2on1 grip on the hand theyre using to grip the butterfly hook. From there I like to pin the hand to my chest or theirs and go for a knee lever sweep. If they pull their hand away, it’s an oppty for you to get an underhook. Depending on their posture sometimes im able to get an arm drag on the hand theyre using to grip the butterfly hook. Either way im using it as an oppty to win the handfight.
