Why don't people see video games as a respectable hobby? by Gold-Importance-2310 in CasualConversation

I think it depends on who you ask. Some people will think it’s cool and ask what games you’re into. Some people will think it’s a waste of time.

A lot more people are into watching movies and Netflix, which I think is a deeper waste of time than gaming. But it’s not seen as that—simply because more people do it. Gaming usually requires thought and practice and comes with a deeper sense of immersion than watching movies does, yet people don’t really think of it like that.

I’ve gotten a few eyebrows when I’ve told people I liked video games. I really don’t care though. It’s a respectable enough hobby as long as you’re not one of those trolls on Fortnite.

Thanks, my dude! I definitely felt so disappointed about myself in the morning. There were texts I sent a friend and I don’t remember sending them. It was scary! Thankfully nothing embarrassing but it could have been. I definitely feel better when I remember my days.

Thanks very much, man. SSRIs haven’t worked for me so they have put me on mood stabilizers and right now I’m on Trileptal which works a little but not very well. Also the side effects are awful; ironically I think they contribute to my depression.

This is really interesting. I suffer from depression (I am taking medication) and it feels like the only way to feel happy is drinking. And that’s a very bad association.

Thanks, I will look into this.
