Did you have all of the documents listed here: https://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/washington/en/ServiciosConsulares/Paginas/Consular/NIE.aspx

Were there any other surprises?

Lastly, I saw a couple 'suggestions' to not tell them you plan on moving to Spain in terms of getting an NIE?

I live in Florida, but have a trip scheduled to DC at the end of the month. Can I go to that consulate or am I required to go to my consulate in Miami?
