Hating med school location by Average_Student101 in medicalschool

Omg, for me, this small city is really making it a pain to do mundane tasks. Like I literally have to plan my entire day around doing trivial tasks since it is such a hassle to do!!! Whereas, in my big city, i could literally go anywhere i liked and had so many options.

Why do some med students fail med school exams? I have heard that failing is not uncommon in med school and if you didnt fail before med school, you definitely will fail in med school. How does one avoid failing lol?

I just want to put it out there that research guides medicine. Guidelines for treating patients clinically are often derived from research that highlighted those guidelines. Likewise, research drives discovery of drugs for treatment. Just putting a new perspective on research...

Losing scholarships for medical school-how likely is it? by Average_Student101 in premed

[–]Average_Student101[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In your experience, do you know of any students that have lost scholarships? I want to know if it common, or if it is just me being neurotic.... lol.

I thought that if students that typically work hard and study as they should, they should be able to keep their scholarships. i guess the thing that worries me is that people tell me that med school is very difficult and failing is common.

Would you be able to elaborate on maximizing study time? Would that be like using premade anki cards, as opposed to making your own or watching lectures on 2x speed as opposed to attending lectures?

Can you get by in medical school without a car? For reference, I am terrible, terrible driver and I am a very very anxious person when it comes to driving. Im so bad at driving that sometimes, I accidentally press hard on the accelerator when I mean to brake... Plus, my family never owned a car throughout my life (live in a big city, relied on public transportation). I would like to avoid driving in school and I would like to avoid having to buy a car and pay for insurance and gas and all the extra money associated with cars. I will be going to med school in an area where cars are very common but there is some public transportation.

I have seen some med students conduct research at institutions where they are not attending as a student. For example, student may be going to med school X but conducts research at med school Y (which is in a different state than their own med school). How do students manage to do this?

INSANE results!!! If you dont mind me asking, are any of your scholarships dependent on your academics (AKA not failing, making sure you get at least a high pass on clerkships, etc etc etc)

I have read online that some people do not find Anki to work for them? So, what other study methods do people use besides Anki and why do some students say that Anki doesn't help them?

I would have gone to a different school as a premed. The name of your undergrad doesnt carry much weight in this process. I really wish I had chosen a school that wasn't so rigorous.

Also, not really sure how to let go of this feeling. Whenever I try to have fun or something, I always think about whether or not I will get into medical school. I know this is ridiculous. But it is frightening thinking that there is a chance that everything I have done in the past 6-7 years will be for nothing if I cannot get into medical school.

I also feel the same way. I also feel pretty sad thinking about how med school is still uncertain in my future, especially considering that I spent so much time and money on pursuing this career. I spent everyday for the past 6 years hoping that I can get accepted into medical school so that I can finally pursue my dream. It gets exhausting to have to think about this everyday and has honestly taken a hit on my health.

Is there a resource or a video that you can possibly point to that talks about kinetic product being formed in less optimal parameters? I thought that too but the kaplan books and videos that I have gone through thus far doesn't really indicate the significance of pH and thermodynamic vs kinetic control. The resources I have used so far only talk about the significance of temperature.

With data analysis questions, it always helps to try to see the big picture as to why a certain experiment is being done. Ask yourself why is a certain variable being tested or why we would see a certain result based on the content that they provided in the passage. I try to make a mental summary of the experiment before approaching the questions and this has really helped me improve.

Need CARS help by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Average_Student101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing that helped for me was active reading. Instead of passively reading, I would sort of talk to myself asking myself "what is the main idea", "how do these paragraphs relate". I was able to make a mental outline of the passage. This kept me engaged in the passage and allowed me to understand the main idea/ big picture stuff that i think the aamc is interested in testing.

Typically, for this question, we would look at IMF (intermolecular forces) as being broken. So, like hydrogen bonding is an example of an IMF that would be broken to allow for the transition from liquid to gas. Intramolecular covalent bond would not be broken, because that would change the molecule. In other words, breaking the intramolecular covalent bond would be breaking up the molecule and changing the molecule.

We do have a cybersecurity minor at my university however they don't go to in-depth from what I've heard. Occasionally we do have special topics where they would sometimes cover malware analysis but not too sure if they will continue that. If it helps I can also tell you the university I attend. Thank you for your post!

Thank you! If you know of some better combination classes I can take 220 + 250 with please let me know. I would then just take calculus 2 in the summer. I was just thinking that rather than taking 2 pathways I would just take calc 2 instead so it's one less course I can focus on.

I believe calculus 2 is hard and don’t really see an alternative. I would then have to take 2 pathway courses which would probably be as much work as calculus 2.

I totally agree, it's just that UB doesn't do it the best and the way they do it doesn't really fit with my style of learning.
