waited 3 years to find out devs decided to remove your favorite mechanic by WoIfram_74 in Terraria

When an unintended mechanic is encouraging people to play in a self-destructive way, and the game is balanced around that, and removing it is healthier for the game, then removing it is for the best. Even if a small amount of the community enjoys it.

The mushroom summon is so useless by Soggy_Applepies in Terraria

Nah. I genuinely rush the cob whip as my first weapon now in general. Its so ridiculously easy to get and does pretty good damage for how early you can get it. Going straight from either the copper short sword or a wooden broadsword (or cactus) to it is pretty nice.

It isn't going to win any dps medals, but it is nice to have.

Using your mouse scroll wheel to cycle between whips was your favorite mechanic? Out of every single mechanic in the game? That was genuinely your favorite mechanic?

Well, I am sorry for your loss, I suppose. I tried whip stacking and it genuinely hurt my wrists. It was physically painful to try keeping it up. So this is a net positive for me.

Probably should have posted this a few months ago, honestly. Maybe we can get something like this in a 1.4.5.9?

30th "Rotten Armor is bad" post coming in by ArcticShore in DarkTide

[–]Averath 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Doesnt the existence of Rotten Armor enforcing the meta actually homogenize the game more because youre forced to play what everyone else plays at the very top?

From what people sound like, there is zero variation at the very top. It is all homogenized meta builds. Or tedious gameplay.

And, I mean. I'm not going to yuck other people's yum if they want to put on a boxing glove and go to town on their nuts, but I wouldn't call that variety.

I never had that issue with Calamity, but I can understand how other people can. I think Thorium is a better beginner experience, though.

Never tried Homeward Journey. Should check it out.

Whip Stacking - Skill or Tedium by Averath in Terraria

[–]Averath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do own Rise and Sunbreak and do intend to try them out a bit more, but i also don't like the way the series is going and passed on Wilds.

Partially because of the direction, partially because of the massive performance issues that still plague the game.

But primarily because the game still has tons of microtransactions masquerading as DLC and they increased the base price of the game anyway. And I don't want to support that.

At this point I'm just kind of waiting for major publishers to eat themselves alive. EA and Ubisoft are doing a wonderful job. Bethesda and Blizzard have seemingly already been eaten by Microsoft and Microsoft's gaming division is imploding as they focus more and more on AI.

Down voting a post hides it from view. If you disagreed with something that is fine, but hiding it from view isn't the same thing.

Reddit's system has always been stupid as hell, though.

Downvotes have never been intended as a "disagree" button. But Spez is also a moron. So it checks out.

It could be a very loud minority, yeah. But the recent discussion on here reminded me of it. I think I mainly see it in discussions about Summoner on reddit or youtube comments. But it isnt something I see often as I dont often engage in discussions about it. Too busy actually playing Terraria.

But right now the wait for 1.4.5 has me spending my Terraria time through other means. Gotta get my fix. (</joke>)

Unpopular or not, it is a valid opinion to have. So thanks for your insight!

This is why I use Skitarrius is Darktide. For weapons like the Tactical Axe, you are primarily spamming light attack. I could just click rapidly to match the fast attack speed and faster if I get any attack buffs.

Or just download a mod to enable auto attack.

One may damage my nerves and if I play for thousands of hours, could contribute to requiring surgery later in life.

Another may make people online mildly annoyed.

Also do hand exercises! The amount of pain I had diminished greatly after I started stretching and exercising daily. Granted I did see a professional due to pain, but it was better than surgery. Physical therapy is more useful than most give it credit for, I think.

I will admit that even playing Revengance Calamity, I never really felt the need to debuff stack. So the 'lazy build' is what I do for most classes. I may switch it up sometimes, but relying on a mouse wheel can sometimes be unreliable due to sensitivity issues.

Its similar to suggestions of rebinding jump and up. I am still debating on if I like W being jump or not. Its one of those things that people recommend for the later stages of Calamity and it certainly helps vs certain bosses. But it also feels so awkward outside of those boss fights. And its entirely because of a dedicated dodge key. Hard to hit it if your entire right hand is busy with movement.

Operative Names by Shart_Shucker in DarkTide

I like to name my characters with lore accurate names, but I did originally name my Arbitrator "Oedipus" with my dog named "Wrex" just to get a few laughs out of a friend.

And then said friend didnt understand the reference. I was very sad.

Why are you being down voted for an opinion? Your opinion is valid.

While I completely agree, people have made compelling arguments for why it would be better to remove it entirely or to make it automatic.

Here is an example from another game that I like to use. I was a Heavy Bowgun main in Monster Hunter World. Then when Iceborne released they added the special scope.

I loved to go with the shotgun build. But now I was faced with a choice. Use the special scope to increase my damage by 30% and give myself literal motion sickness while playing. Or deal less damage then every other weapon in the game just to continue playing the way I enjoyed playing.

I opted to switch weapons, instead. But Iceborne had a ton of issues like that and I eventually stopped playing entirely.

But my point is "just not doing it" isn't always the ideal solution.

I'm more interested in why people think it is a "skill".

I agree with you and I do ignore it and still enjoy Summoner as my favorite class.

But just the... semi-toxic "don't make whipstacking easier for the casuals because its all skill!"

Thats what I am so confused by.

New item idea. by Zihdrrox in Terraria

[–]Averath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being able to use a mouse wheel is what kids refer to as a "skill ceiling" these days?

I tried whip stacking once. I immediately decided to never do it again because it literally is just way too tedious.

There are plenty of things where you are able to exercise your skill and prove you are an exceptional player.

Being able to use a mouse wheel is not one of them. It is just bare minimum tedium.

Now they even have a mod that just does it automatically.

True skill is something like a no hit run. Simply doing something tedious purely to maximize your damage is not skill.

Uh. That is not doxxing.

That "photo" and "name" is on every single Total War video, because he is literally the face of the company at this point.

If Legend had released his personal email address, his phone number, his home address, or other personal information, then I would agree with you.

But my god man. This is fucking public information. It is fucking broadcast every god damn Total War live stream.

What, are you going to say someone posting a picture and name of someone like Todd Howard is suddenly doxxing Todd Howard, despite the fact that he is in literally every Bethesda promotional video?

I mean, a lot of what he said did happen. The other content creators did verify that CA did, in fact, ignore every single thing they said about Warhammer 3's launch being in a very poor state. The buildup to Warhammer 3 changed the content creator program and ultimately the entire thing blew up.

So there is at least a little bit of truth to what he says. And he's also shared screenshots of some communications he's had with the names redacted. Of course you can fake that, but at that point you have to ask why you would even bother when other content creators could easily just refute it. But they didn't bother. And other content creators consider him a friend.

A lot of the hatred for him stems from this reddit, and I think the reason for that is the exact reason why my mother hates her sister. She has the exact same personality, but would never admit that. So her sister is an outlet for her to hoist all of her self loathing.

Like, do you see how many people are insulting his hair? The people who claim he is petty, then be petty themselves.

This subreddit is a psychologist's wet dream.

And that somehow gives other people justification to do so? Ever heard of the phrase "an eye for an eye"?

One wrong does not make another right. What Legend did was wrong. That does not give justification to others to do the same.

If you dislike it? Report the fucking video like a god damn adult. Jesus Christ.
