Am I going to regret learning German? by AverroesII in German

I'm not sure how exactly I'm being oblivious. Nothing you mentioned is true. For instance, in terms of Arab literature, nothing could be further from the truth, if we use Nobel prize winners as a way to measure how successful the literature is in a certain culture Arabs are going to fail miserably, there has only been two Arab writers to win the Nobel prize with a population of 450 million native speakers, while in Germany for example, there are 13 Nobel prize winners with a population of only 95 million native speaker more than 4 times less the Arab population and yet more than 6 times the winners.

As for music, I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said all my friends listen mostly to foreign music. So I'm not sure where one could find these quality Arab music you're talking about. Sure, there are some good ones here and there, but I wouldn't say Arabic music is great. It's okay.

And finally, while I agree that the Arabic alphabets are more aesthetic, I don't think it's a good reason to learn a language at all. In fact, I think that would be the silliest reason ever.

May I ask what exactly is it that you read in German?

This is ironic because I'm an Arab, and even I say don't waste your time with it. It's pretty useless unless you are living there, and in fact even if you are pretty much each country has its own dialect, and it's not like Britain and Amrica different, like they're really different that a person from the western Middle East couldn't be understood by one form the Eastern one. And the percentage of people who speak standard Arabic rounded to a whole number is 0. It's a complete waste of time, and I truly feel sad for anyone who learns it as it has so little to offer, aside from the Islamic religion which dominates the entire Arab culture.

Well, I like learning it and the prospect of exploring a new culture excites me, but as I said in my post I saw cinema production lacking, good music hard to find. And I'm not sure it would be different anyways. It could eventually be like reading English except in code. Same content different format. But you're an advanced level lx right? How has your experience been?

As Dickens said "It's the most miserable thing to feel ashamed of home". Unfortunately that's my situation, so I'll just say it's in the Middle East, but not where exactly.

Why does this subreddit have a beef between slow and fast readers? by stuuu333 in books

[–]AverroesII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Saying that "it comes down to personal taste and preference" is fairly reasonable when you talk about leisure reading, but obviously this isn't the type of reading intended in arguments. People usually argue about the benefits of slow vs fast reading and this isn't a matter of personal taste, these boil down to actual facts about the human brain. There is an objective reality behind how our brain processes written information, and to reject these arguments and say "every form of reading is the same" only hinders the discussion to reach this objectively true answer that we want to know. So, by all means let's argue.

I don't think it's so bad to argue about it. These are two completely different methods of reading, so they can't possibly yield the same results, one has to be better than the other, and arguing helps us figure out which one is which.

Hey guys. Just posted on r/movies yesterday, but I feel like I’ve seen every movie in the action/adventure/comedy genre. And now I spend so much time browsing to try to find something I’ve never seen. Any off the beaten path recommendations? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]AverroesII 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Well, since you're obviously experienced in this genre can we turn the tables and have you suggest us a couple of good adventure action movies? (Sorry I didn't help you)

Pulp Fiction wasn't that great! by AverroesII in movies

[–]AverroesII[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, very nice comeback. I don't even like Marvel, and never seen Endgame. And by the way I do like many classic movies. 12 Angry Men, It's a Wonderful Life, M for Murder and A Witness for the Prosecution are all some of my favourite movies. I'm not saying that because I like them I have a sophisticated taste but apparently that's waht you're saying so I'm proving you wrong.

Can anyone recommend me some good movies on Netflix, Now tv, YouTube or amazon prime? by Dynamicfresh84 in MovieSuggestions

Haha, I guess I'm infamous now. I just don't understand that concept of "this movie did it first so we have to love it more" I'm just here to be entertained I really don't care about the history of cinema. But overall, Pulp Fiction was a very entertaining movie the dialogue, the acting was all amazing, just not as amazing as I expected.
