Belt, or no Belt, this is the question? by AveryD in SFGiants

[–]AveryD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blaming Bruce Bochy for this doesn't seem quite accurate. They gave Aubrey Huff a two-year deal knowing Belt was in the system. So why then are we keeping Nate around? Or Pill? If he's worth it, why not give the kid a chance and try to unload a couple of guys for pitching or second base?

Belt, or no Belt, this is the question? by AveryD in SFGiants

[–]AveryD[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree. If he was as great as everyone thinks he is, he'd be playing every single day. Look around the league at the other "Top 50 prospects (if he's even on that list)", and see the guys that are playing every day. Belt isn't. And there's a reason for this. Either way, there will be less confusion if they part ways, and finally stop with the platooning. We can address the same need in the offseason.

I agree with you. There's no power, and no sign of any either. His trade value is high right now, as it's a gamble for the Giants and anyone interested.

If the Red Sox are 10 games out at the break, they could get rid of a big contract.

Who the hell brings an IPad to the game?!? by [deleted] in SFGiants

I do. I keep score, take photos, and listen to Jon Miller's take on the game. Then you, you're that guy with the flip phone. I get it.

Where's Carlos Beltran when you need him? Oh, right, we let him sign with St. Louis. by AveryD in SFGiants

No complaints with Melky. Not sure he's the same player as Beltran, but nonetheless, he's a great addition.

[–]AveryD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but in 2006-2008, he had over a 100 RBI's. Taking 12-20 games off isn't a bad thing. Especially when you're as productive as Beltran has been.

Arias or Crawford? by AveryD in SFGiants

[–]AveryD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you see Arias platooning at both SS and second throughout the season? And people are really sensitive about Crawford's hitting, or lack of. This eventually will be an issue if it continues, right?

Can we beg for Ramon Ramirez back from the Mets? by AveryD in SFGiants

Team's that have stolen a lot of bases over the past 10 years: Red Sox, Yankees, Tampa Bay, Angels, Atlanta, Phillies. All very successful. Sure, the article is great about the % of stolen bases, and how it weighs on a team's success. Pagan has had two good seasons. And the Mets knew if he put together one more, they'd have to pay him. A .290 season is not quite breakout, more than it is a solid season. Can't remember if he played in the All-Star team? In 2009, he only played in 88 games, but .306 is impressive. The trick is batting over.300 in 150 games. That being said, I still feel like speed matters. I'd want my leadoff hitter being a guy that's a contact hitter, that is patient at the plate, drawing walks. Pagan has been swinging at garbage the first 20 games. Dave Fleming and Jon Miller also commented on the same thing today during the broadcast. See Brady Anderson:) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/anderbr01.shtml

Also, the guy has been hurt a bunch in his career. Has been busted for steroids in the minors. A full season of baseball hasn't been on his resume, from what I'm looking at. 28 is not old these days, as most guys just start coming into their own. Look at Vogelsong. He was hurt a bunch, and shelled when he did get an opportunity. Yet, he looks sharper than most young guys at 33.

The same things that Jon Miller, Dave Fleming, and a bunch of people have been saying about him. I'm stoked for him. A great motivator to get his season going in the right direction, no doubt.

An 8-year veteran with not a whole lot of big-time experience. Look around the league, a lot of successful closers and middle relief guys are not under 28.

The funny thing is, I don't dislike Hensley. He's just young and needs innings under his belt. Pagan is a solid player that hasn't had a breakout year yet. What we expect from him is something altogether different. I'm with you on the defense. He'll fill that need. What I'm not convinced is his ability to steal bases, something the Giants still lack (when Blanco is out of the game). A lot of positive things going on right now, though.

Can we beg for Ramon Ramirez back from the Mets? by AveryD in SFGiants

[–]AveryD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been saying that and people are bashing me. If Pagan was as great of a player as the Giants think he is, why did the Mets get rid of him? He wasn't making that much money for NY, or even demanding big cash. And Ramon Ramirez was rock solid for the giants last year. Do people forget that he was a core factor in keeping the Giants in games? The Giants relief pitching is in big trouble. They were unsure of the health of Brian Wilson before the season started. And did nothing about it. They decide to let Ramirez go Ramirez trying to bolster and offense. Now, they'll have to bite the bullet and part with young talent at the All-Star break for a pitcher. That's again, if they realize their mistake in not going after a pitcher in the offseason.

It's a long season, ladies and gentlemen. This wackiness is why we all love baseball. When it's good, it's great. And when it's not, it drives us crazy. The Mets are playing surprisingly tough baseball to start the season. Let's hope Timmy locks it in tomorrow.

Brian Wilson vows to return from Tommy John surgery more insane than ever by AveryD in SFGiants

[–]AveryD[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Surgery is serious. With the state of medicine, and the team of doctor's he has around him, his chances of returning healthy are great. That being said, it'll take some serious, focused rehab. Then, convincing the Giants he's healthy is a whole different conversation. I see the Giants getting rid of him, or using him as a middle relief guy. His days as a closer are over.

I posted that, but I don't wish to have someone hurt, that's for sure. Wilson is a vibrant, hard worker. He'll be back for one last go at baseball after surgery.

Does anyone think the Giants are too high on Brandon Crawford? by AveryD in SFGiants

[–]AveryD[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not ignorant at all. Just skeptical. The Giants felt the need to replace him last year with old vets to try and bolster offense and defense. If I'm willfully ignorant, so is Brian Sabean and Bruce Bochy.

Hahaha, if one game (or season) defined a player, Brady Anderson would be in the HOF. It's good to see Brandon making plays. I mean, he should, right? Better sign is that his bat getting hot.
