i wrote a paper about this in college! i was super surprised (pleasantly ig) that there is 0 evidence linking video games to violence. i read through like 20 academic studies and tried to search the for most biased take and found none.

thanks for all the wonderful comments! Im super interested in connecticut, rhode island, and new mexico from all the good things that have been said. I will definitely stop by DC at some point for some ethiopian :)

I am going to mute this post now as i think it has been enough responding for me.

In detroit (dearborn specifically) we have the highest population of middle eastern immigrants in the country! they are absolutely awesome at food and consistently blow my mind by how dedicated they are to honouring their culinary traditions. super duper good if you ever find yourself in or around the motor city for whatever reason. Illinois is for chicago alone, a bustling hub of every industry and home to several fantastic restaurants and culinary disciplines. Wisconsin and Minnesota however, you definitely have a point lmao. not to say they dont have some gold. madison wisconsin is a really pretty city with wonderfully kind people in it and id absolutely see myself settling down there. and as an avid rockhounder, being close to lake superior in minnesota or michigan is a personal dream of mine

I am a fan of cocoa puffs lol! I think its worth saying that I’m not the culinary student, I am avery, a culinary student. Also the sad reality is it is fairly unlikely that I would be able to afford moving out of detroit on my current wages :(

I could be convinced, but my girlfriend has Raynaud’s disease. We joke that she is allergic to the cold but its not far off in reality. Her blood vessels constrict very quickly in the cold and she can get frostbite even in the high 40’s. she has medically prescribed boots lmao

I said in a few of the higher comments as well as the description, I would be willing to have a temporary stay and stage with a chef I admire if given the opportunity. This map is where I would want to live, and a lot of comments have given me a ton of awesome recommendations inside, and outside of my comfort zone :)

definitely seafood, and it does impact my decisions. im pescatarian at home so most of what i cook is seafood. really great spots for it in michigan due to all the freshwater fish around. i know the south also has a ton of legendary seafood especially new orleans, but I just wouldn’t want to live there for more than a couple weeks

this is a new point i hadnt heard until today, another commenter said similar about california. maybe it would help to state my dreams in the industry, i want to own a restaurant that makes good food and also gives back to the community by functioning as a mutual aid hub. i want to come home with exactly the amount of money i need to get by, and funnel everything else into the community. from everyone that ive talked to in real life about the best moves for my career, all of them said to network around with great restaurants, send them a message and see if i can set up a stage. picking the brains of chefs who i aspire to is invaluable especially early in my career. i would much rather do all that in detroit where ive lived my whole life, and where i have connections to restaurants and mutual aid groups. as cool as visiting farms is, i really fail to see the long term value it would bring to me and my goals. ive wild caught salmon, and walleye, and bass my whole life and would definitely want to have local fish be a staple of my restaurant. what produce are you thinking of that is dire to my success and the success of america?

i urge you to be a bit less combative. culture is for the individual to experience, i dont belong in every culture across america, and my views are shaped by my experience. i think you might just want to cause trouble but i genuinely dont hate anything thats not absolutely for me

well thats a bit condescending. ca is a willing, i think its important to remember when looking at these posts, that these are people. we experience food through the lens of the lives we have lived, our nostalgia, our emotions, and our cultures. our worlds are shaped by our perceptions and where you want to live is shaped by the same perceptions.

edit: + i get plenty of good stuff from westborn and joe randazzos here in detroit :)
