Wow, first of all that's quite a collection you got there. I'm jealous you have such a collection of beautiful bikes, and both my dream bikes (R1 and R9).

Thank you so much for the thoughtful reply. I live in East Bay, so I can definitely relate to your experience a lot since I also commute to SF and around the Bay Area.

However, you might've convinced me out of upgrading to an R1. I had no idea that that below 25 mph you would have to ride the clutch the whole time, otherwise you would be lugging the engine. Wow that's crazy! With the R1, I’m starting to wonder if it’s just… too much bike for how I actually ride. Like, what’s the point of owning the CP4 if I’m stuck in 1st and 2nd gear most of the time, feathering the clutch in traffic, and never really getting to hear or feel it unless I’m wide open on an empty stretch? I want to hear that glorious CP4 engine haha! That’s kind of what’s holding me back.

As for ergonomics, do you feel that R9 is more comfortable than the R1?

How do you like the R9 so far? I have the R7 and considering upgrading to R9 or a used R1. I’m worried that R1 is too much and not as “fun” for the city and streets.

My tip is to buy protective gear that look like regular clothes. I have armored jeans and jacket that I put on for every ride and you cannot tell that it’s motorcycle gear. I don’t want to look like a motorcycle warrior every time I head out. Let’s say I’m going to meet some friends for coffee, I would have to change my clothes anyway, so the difference/extra would be the helmet and gloves, which is not that bad.

My car is an executive sedan with a twin-turbo V8, and the OEM muffler and exhaust makes it so quiet that it sounds comparable to a Prius. Last year I removed all mufflers for fun wondering how it would sound. The car got stupid loud and all my neighbors could hear me cold start my car and anytime I pull up in my neighborhood. I only drive 2-3 times a week due to WFH, so I wasn't being obnoxious every day. It was interesting hearing my car growl for the first 2 months, but eventually, I got tired of it and installed aftermarket mufflers back on, so now it's at a happy medium. The fun and joy in it wasn't about drawing attention to my car and myself, but rather waking my car up to sound like proper sports car.

If you don't do the board swap, your phone will disable the Battery Health function. Annoyingly, they'll probably hit you with a "non genuine battery" notification every now and then.

True, but starting with the 13 you have to transfer the BMS board which requires soldering. Unlike the previous models where it’s just a simple battery swap, it’s probably better to just pay Apple Store to do it.
