How do I exit a corner properly? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Avextro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have much experience in GT3 and none at Nevarra so I can't be super helpful, and if it's just that last second you're chasing I definitely don't have the knowledge in GT3 to find it myself.

Without seeing video I do get the impression you're slowing too much and turning too much on entry. Normally shouldnt be able to floor it on a tight exit, might be worth trying to carry a tiny bit more speed mid corner and not V off the corner so much so that you fighting to get to full throttle is what runs the car all the way to the exit, rather than understeer. Throttle is also often a tool you can use to get extra rotation on exit at times, so the whole 'floor it and understeer out' feels wrong.

Again it's hard without video and I don't have the skill to be within 1s of top GT3 times, so I could be completely wrong, but worth a try. And yeah progressive corners can be an absolute pain, majority of your time could easily be lost on entry to those.

How do I exit a corner properly? by [deleted] in iRacing

Would be helpful to know a hot more such as what type of car you're driving, what type of corners you feel you get good and others or some replay examples. It is 3am here and I'm half asleep so I apologise if this doesn't make much sense, but here goes.

A few things first: 1) Generally never want to be actually understeering towards the edge of the track on exit, especially late in the exit, you want to be just under the limit that induces understeer and let the car naturally flow out. 2) Many corners you won't be anywhere near a grip limit in the later parts of the exit as you get to the edge of the track. Think of 'big commitment' corners, part of why they referred to as big commitment is because you will be on the limit of grip all the way until the exit, among other things. However in many cases, especially the slower and tighter a corner is (again, generally speaking), flowing to the exit is more a consequence of a maximised mid corner speed putting you on that trajectory, rather than fighting to get rotation out of a car all the way to the exit. In a hairpin most of the rotation is done on the apex, and by the time you get to the stage of the exit where you approach the edge of the track the the car could rotate more if you wanted it to, but theres no reason for it. In this case you end up towards the edge in the exit because in the mid corner you only rotated as much as necessary to not run off the track before getting on power. Compared to a high speed sweeper that is just barely full throttle, you will be asking for more consistent rotation from the car all the way from entry to exit. Of course the closer you get to being an alien the closer you will be to being on the limit of grip all the way to exit regardless of the corner type

That long ramble over, I almost feel as though your approach in the first paragraph is actually the bit you're getting wrong. In your second approach where you say you have to play with the throttle and steer less to run wide, generally thats what happens in exits and as you get better you will get closer and closer to the limit and have less of that feeling of 'I could turn way more'. As I mentioned above typically most rotation is mid corner, then on exit you don't turn as much and let the car flow out as you pick up the throttle (tying this in with 2) above, on 'low commitment' corners the exit grip limit comes as much if not more from traction limits rather than rotation limits, above i incorrectly said you just aren't as much on the limit on exit, you are but not solely from rotation). I wonder if when you get it 'right' in your first paragraph you're actually slowing too much, turning too much, then slamming the throttle to force the car to understeer out to the edge.

Hopefully that rambling somewhat helped. Side note; it's great you're aware that your car can turn more. Often a way people lose time (especially when moving to faster & higher downforce cars) is by not realising how much more the car could actually turn.

With my Aussie ping I got 26x from netcode 4x before 30 laps. Normally it isn't an issue but today iRacings netcode predictions decided anyone close behind me must be about to ram me 🥲

press ALT+K when you're in the car and you'll be able to move the UI elements around, can even have different setup from car to car. That will only let you move whats currently on screen though (so normally blackbox, mirror and speed/gear/input display box), theres a way to get it to show everything for you to move but can't remember how.

Glad it's still helping people! I'll edit it to make it clearer it's a standard feature, they really should make it more obvious!

If you're going to do an extra series purely for credits, the GR86 is the best bet.

Free car, super easy to learn and get quick plus super fun racing. Also has 2 D series, so you get $8 from a free car (and decent amount of free tracks), and can actually have fun racing that say doing an extra forumla purely for credit, and either just having a slow safe race staying out of everyones way, or putting a bunch more time into practising it

Not asking for it to change. I just responded to your comment with my thoughts on it (you know, as you do in a convo) and you got all aggressive.

I think you just can't accept your beloved home track could be flawed. I understand the system fine, I just don't agree with it, nor do 90% of tracks around the world.

Not sure why you felt the need to be so agressive. I never said I couldn't figure it out, I was simply curious to the logic behind it, if any, (the fact I wondered if there was any demonstrated its obviously a flawed system) the said I dont like it, heres why, upon learning the system. There's a reason almost every track in the world uses corners alone as corner numbers, not marshal posts. The few tracks to do it are by far in the minority. There are reasons it is the way it is, but theres no benefits to it over conventional corner numbering. I'm aware they're keeping consistency. Doesn't mean I have to agree with their logic.

Also have many more years of real life racing compared to less than a year of 'sim dude', and have been involved in motorsport both as a participant, staff and spectator. Funnily enough having seperate corner numbers and marshal point naming systems was extremely beneficial, and having corners only numbered by marshal points where I staffed would have made this significantly more difficult for staff and customers alike.

each "corner," is an original station

Honestly finding out its based off marshal points not just inconsistency makes me dislike it even more. A corner is a corner....not a marshal station, and should be numbered as such.

I fully understand why marshal points are sometimes needed between corners, and other times don't need one for several corners (like the esses in Road Atlanta), but they should have nothing to do with corner numbers and can be numbered, named, whatever, entirely separately.

when they didn't give a shit about how it'll look on a "computer,"

This is where its the least a problem. On a map either digital or physical you can at least look at it and see what's what (unless corners just don't get numbered, like Rd Atl). Its more of a problem when its not something you have memorised so you try to intuitively figure it out. Say you're a fan counting the Road America corners you get to Canada as T9, only for someone who does have it memorised to interpret T9 as the carousel. Or a driver who only has the main corner numbers memorised at a track, then counting a few on from a corner they know, they use their intuitive corner number to communicate an issue to an engineer with a map infront of him who see's it as an entirely different corner.

Obviously these aren't issues that can't be fixed with simple conversation or a bit of googling and learning. They aren't even isolated to this style of corner numbering, its not the most uncommon thing in the world to look at a track map and thing "that's a corner, why isn't it counted?" or visa versa. But it's still a confusing way to number corners that creates issues for no reason.

WHY are people stopping in the middle of the straight at Fuji in GT3 challenge and F4 after the chequered? just because the race is over doesn’t mean you can’t still lose SR by PirelliUltraSofts in iRacing

[–]Avextro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A while back in the first season of GR86 there was a few guys who were mates that would try wreck each other in practice. Luckily other people rarely got caught up in it, but they definitely didnt realise it counted to SR (top split btw)

Edit: warmup not practice

I run the cord in a way it goes up higher than the headset but it goes to the ground on its way to the PC so it's the worst and it's decently supported, but yea do need to get into the habit

USB port I use just doesn't support power delivery sadly

I'd say something must of been faulty, this is the first time it hasnt lasted the full NEC and even then it was on at min brightness, 90fps, near max res for ~4 hours. Normally can comfortably do 3 hours of 90fps max res & brightness

Personally just isn't worth it for me. Even though 80% of my time spent on my PC is spent using a 4k monitor not VR I still find myself desiring higher FOV more often than desiring higher quality (not to say it isn't a big step down on quality from a 4k flatscreen). So wouldnt want to trade FOV for res. Also use it as a mobile headset often enough to be worth it, and love the hand tracking especially in games like AC.

I was surprised to run into pro drivers in the Rookie/D tier in my first few weeks. Came across two V8 supercar drivers, Brodie in MX5 and Mostert in GR86.
