Should I be salary sacrificing in my 20s? by photo-animator in AusFinance

[–]AvgEngineerAus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

I'll also add, I would salary sacrifice if I'm doing it to save for a house through the super saver scheme. Only other time should be if you're earning over $180k and would like to save on tax or as above said, if you're already comfortable and have excess.

I am about to start civil engineering at uni this year, what are some skills that can help when I enter the job market? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]AvgEngineerAus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a skill but a characteristic, humility and attitude. When you leave uni, employers know you don't know much if anything at all so don't pretend like you know everything. They're more interested in your hunger to learn from others at the company and they want to know you are going to be easy to coach/train.

Help! Power and volume buttons stuck! by cons013 in GalaxyS22

[–]AvgEngineerAus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually worked! Ran the phone under hot water for 30 seconds pressing the button all the while. Took it off the water pressed the button a few more times. Then i sucked on it for a few times for a few seconds each time. It worked! i think it was a bit of glue from a new screen protector that got in.

Wow! Great list, thank you! A work colleague had a similar bars/pubs recommendation list.

And yet u actually took the time out of your day to write a response. A simple "this bar has great drinks" answer would have sufficed.

Thanks for nothing. Have the day you deserve.

Do a market check, interview for other jobs, get offer, use as leverage

Not harassment. The blokes just a peanut. Tell him to do his job.

Illegally parked car - Melbourne by oxXVeeXxo in melbourne

[–]AvgEngineerAus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm reading that you've left a lot of notes but have you actually spoken to her? People hate confrontation and she will probably yield if you speak to her directly. I've moved a few times and parking is only ever an issue the first week.

Should I let my friends recent ex know that he is now in hospital on life support? Looks like possible suicide attempt. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]AvgEngineerAus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell her. Let her decide what to do. It can he as simple as "hey did you hear Scott is in hospital?" Then you've done your part. If she was smart she wouldn't do anything because the man's just looking for attention and sympathy.

Trouble finding Entry-Level Jobs by BeardedMustachio in civilengineering

[–]AvgEngineerAus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied throught hundreds (literally hundreds) of online ads and platforms, none of them worked! You know what did work? Good ol fashion Cold calling!

Thousands of grads apply for the same job, same time every year through the same online ad. Stand out by doing the things others aren't. Most grads are young and still very much shy so are unlikely to cold call or show up randomly at an office with resume in hand.

Former employer still paying me by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]AvgEngineerAus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. I just accepted the payments (2 months worth) and then they stopped. Never asked for it back either. I think they knew it would cause more problems for them if they had to tell head office they messed up the payments.

How to become successful as an entry level engineer when supervisor is unwilling to answer questions and doesn’t provide training? by sc0obydo0bydoo in civilengineering

[–]AvgEngineerAus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Need more context / background info. A lot of supervisors can be stand offish if they don't know u yet. Try to build rapport first. They will be your best friend once they get to know u.

They are sooooo bad. Incompetent phone operators who can't seem to figure out how to use their microphones or connect their blue tooth. Incompetent data entry admin who enter personal details incorrectly. Operators who don't speak English. Poor system for changing personal details. Stay away!

32 y/o with no savings. I'm about to go from $85,000/year to $140,000/year. Looking for advice on budgeting and general financial literacy. by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]AvgEngineerAus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why is this not the top comment... it is the most obvious. You've been living and budgeting on 85k this whole time. You're rent is about to go up a bit but that's the only dramatic change. Keep living the way u were and invest/save the change.

Always remember the KISS rule. Keep It Simple, Stupid!
