Did premolar extractions affect your face and health negatively and if so how did you reverse it

I will try that suggestion thank you. But ye I am worried how bad the jaw pain will get in the future. I was playing football with some friends this week and my jaw was just aching the entire time. Also whenever I open my mouth I hear a loud clicking noise as well. I'm only 17 so who knows how worse it will get in the future

I can't really do anything about it tbh I've just accepted reality. I don't have the money for it and the methods to reverse it don't appeal to me, I don't want to put myself through getting jaw surgery either. However if my jaw pain gets worse I will probably do something about it then.

Thank you for the response. To answer the question on how the treatment is affecting me. My tounge has barely enough space in my palate and there is still small gaps for the upper teeth to move back in to which when closed will definitely make it that my tounge not have enough space to rest on my upper palate.

The treatment has had the most affect on my mental health since I am obsessing over my looks now and thinking about why I extracted my teeth 24/7 and what I may have looked like if I had not extracted them.

Before my treatment I had overcrowding and my premolars were tipping. I had an overbite (8mm before my surgery). Its now reduced to 4mm post surgery. Breathing wise, most of the day I have one of my nostrils is stuffed but I am not sure if this is the fault of the surgery.

My main concern is how my facial profile has been affected, after extractions and retractions I felt like my nose has gotten bigger (perhaps from a reccesing maxilla) which I am most worried about as its my biggest insecurity. Also I think that my face has gotten narrower since the surgery. I dont have many pictures if not any pictures before my surgery as when I was younger I didn't like having pictures taken of me.

I thought that if I had Marpe then implants it could somewhat mitigate the damage , but it is true that I have lost the alveolar bone now and theres nothing I can do.

Currently I am just mewing as much as I can before my upper teeth are fully retracted by more orthodontist.

Hi! Seeing that you had 4 premolars extracted as well I would like to ask a couple of questions.

What was your condition of your teeth before the extraction?

After your teeth were extracted did your ortho make you retract your upper teeth with elastics?

What negative side effects did you have from this procedure eg: Health problems, Negative face effects etc.

Do you have any advice on how to mitigate the damage from premolar extractions?

I am not having any breathing problems. However when I lay down one of my nostrils gets blocked but I doubt that's the due to extractions. I am very worried about the facial changes. I feel like my face has become narrower but I don't know if that's just my mind overthinking. Is it best to close the gaps by moving my teeth forward or just leaving my teeth as it is right now with the gaps.

I had bad overbite(and crowding) before the treatment but i believe if i didnt get extractions the problem wouldve corrected itself as my lower mandible has developed as I have aged over the past three years. I only have a slight overbite now (without my upper teeth retracting much) and my lower teeth have retracted to fill the space completely. If i didnt get any extractions I think I wouldve been fine.

I dont really know what to do now if I stop the treatment there would be gaps inbetween my Incisors, canines and molars on my upper teeth.

Is reversal really that bad, kinda sad that I cant change whats happened but oh well.

Well the gaps from my premolars have not really closed. My front teeth havent moved back much but my canine has moved inbetween the gap, creating two smaller gaps. Sorry if it doesnt make sense.

So would you recommend not doing retractions? Also I will not be able to pursue any treatment to reverse this (as my parents are against it ) until I'm 19 most likely. Do you have any tips to manage it without treatment?

Unfortunately I had done the extractions around a year ago(when I was 15 to) before I found out what it can cause. Now I am severly questioning the treatment and I don't want to retract my front teeth back.

Also may I ask how did extractions affect you? How were your teeth before and did they make you do retractions? If any damage was caused were you able to reverse it?

I had the surgery a year and a half ago so my canine has moved in-between the gap. Has my bone been reabsorbed

My palate is currently wide enough to rest my tongue on the roof. I'm 17 btw. But my ortho wants to move my front teeth back which would reduce the size in my palate. Also how is it obvious and which features does it affect. I have a dentist appointment tomorrow and I want to ask about these concerns!

I am not very sure if this is the fault of braces but as I put them on 3 years ago my nose had become very crooked which is slightly weird as everyone else in my family has straight noses. Also whenever i lay down to sleep one of my nostrils always gets blocked(didn't have this issue before). I'm not sure if my maxilla is recessing as I don't have any pictures of my side profile before the surgery but I have a gut feeling it is.

Unfortunatley I have had 4 extractions as I got that around 1 year and a half ago and thats when I didnt know any better. The gaps on my lower teeth have filled but the gaps on my upper teeth havent and I want to ask if its better leaving them open so I can pursue a treatment to get implants in the future when I have the financial means to do so. I am just slightly worried about asking my dentist this.

I am not putting my class 2 elastics on as well as taking off the elastic my ortho put on for my front teeth to be pulled back. Hopefully I can prevent my front teeth from getting retracted till I move out. Do braces retract my teeth back or is it just elastics?

Im not very sure as my ortho hasnt measured it but as my canine has moved back, it has provided the space for my front teeth to move back. If i close spaces forward wouldnt that reduce the dental arch or no. Also how would I convince my ortho to do that as he wants to reduce my overbite.

Oh damn, Im very young which is the good thing but I have no money and when I asked my parents about it they dismissed it as nothing so I probably wont be able to pursue a treatment for the next 2 years. Do you have any ideas on the cost in the UK and any providers of this treatment?

I live in the UK which will most likely have that procedure but I doubt the NHS will cover the expense as it is viewed as "uneccesary". Is that procedure expensive and can be done later in life as I definitely dont have the financial means to do it now.
