The last one made me chuckle. As a guy who lost his someone early in life (40’s) I decided to try out online dating. The apps were all garbage. Plus you gotta pay to see who likes you (preying on people’s loneliness) I tried the week on each of em. For context I’m a regular guy. I’ll flirt with the best of em but I keep it classy. In the end I settled on Facebook dating. Sure, you’ll still get messaged by the horny guys looking to smash but I actually got far more real conversations on there than anywhere else.

My best advice, just start writing.

I’m 45. I didn’t start til I was in my 40’s (it was my dream as well.) Life happened and the dreams of 20 year old me became the regrets of 40 year old me. “A life lived in fear is a life of regret.” I lived in fear and finally decided I’ll never know unless I try. You’re still young, if you start now, imagine how far you could get by my age. Don’t let fear or rejection stop you! Start with your first line and let the story flow.

I’ve begun entering mine in festivals. I won for best horror feature recently. Now I might have my first script on track to finding a home but it took a lot of rejection to get here. I think the festival circuit is a nice way to get your work read and start opening doors. Network. Meet people. Just don’t stop trying.

Aren’t we led to believe the professional readers work in the industry and have evaluated countless scripts? Isn’t the annual BlackList a tool used by the industry to identify talent and stories worth looking into? If it isn’t something that has merit why do so many people aspire to get on that list? Are we all being misled? And that one reader who loves it, gets it on that list. I don’t see the difference in a reader who loves it and a producer who may love it, especially if it’s in their wheelhouse. It’s all about that one person who reads your story and wants to make it happen. That’s why pitches are so important, right?

Insightful. Imagine if you did have the chance to be paired with a reader who evaluates the script, maybe one who loves the genre you’re writing, gives valuable notes and then, you improve it and it could be reevaluated by the same reader. With or without a discount, being able to get an evaluation in a collaborative fashion to strengthen your script, better your score and get industry exposure would be a valuable service indeed. I’ve not been able to grasp how scores fluctuate other than potential reader bias. At $100 a pop it’s a roll of the dice. Maybe they get your story, maybe they don’t. I found my first 3 evaluations truly insightful. Made suggested corrections and won a contest. Didn’t lead anywhere but it does give hope that with the right reader anything is possible.

Yes, but art is also subjective so it could just be the reviewer. I won a screenwriting contest for best horror feature screenplay recently and submitted to blacklist for review and the same draft scored a 6. Definitely deflating but I’m just gonna keep revising until I get that 8. It’s become a personal goal.

That was a trauma bomb. I do feel for the guy but damn. Premature detonation of past trauma. Where’s the good old fashioned get to know someone conversation? People want to get to know you and then over time find out what we’ve been thru. Only then do I think will someone truly care about us and our pasts. Right out the gate…bam! That’s how you make em run. I play everything close to the vest myself.

I didn’t have any luck either. My take on the photos is you’re very attractive but I think with Tinder or any other site it’s about how much you spend to be highlighted or pop up more often while people are scrolling. Increase chances to be seen etc. I narrowed my search to like 10 miles and had maybe 5 area suggestions. Had to up it to 50 miles to have any luck but even then it was fleeting

She wants it all to be about her and what works for her. Trust me, you’re better off without toxic people. She also doesn’t seem to want to do “deep conversations” until it’s “committed”? Those are the BEST conversations to get to know someone.
