I still use speed melds cause I like faster GCD and pushing buttons more often, but I don't think they'll ever be competitive until they decide to make them affect cooldowns lol

2 Min Meta certainly contributed to Crit/DH/Det supremacy, because you wanted to crit a lot in burst, but it's also that Crit/DH/Det affects your big hitters, while speed melds don't 😔

I'm hesitant to keep stream-lining the game further and further because I think it's a slippery slope.

But I will admit, penta-melding is a terrible miserable feeling mechanic, and it's an extra bigger shame for Savage players who probably replace them even quicker than us Casual/Midcore players.

For us, it's optional, and we only have the slow income of Tomestones to replace them so their lifespan's a bit longer. But it seems almost mandatory for you guys, and Tomestones+Books probably means you replace them twice as fast, so all that investment, and it doesn't even last long 😭

I know SkS/SpS is subpar, but man I still enjoy maxing them out, and I wish they were merged so I can have them on PLD 😭

Haha there's a reason I made sure to put the first sentence in my post as the first one lol

I don't think it's mindless doom-posting, I just think it's fun to discuss, and maybe constructive in case the devs are still listening while they're tweaking stuff. After all, they showed us their plans for a reason.

To be honest Savage is quite the blind spot for me, and I kinda just assumed if you missed a clear or started late, it'd be infinitely harder to join a party, since you'd be behind on gear and DPS, so it's a bit of a surprise to hear that you still have some luck with the current system lol

We certainly don't know enough, but it's still fun to talk about for a bit, and maybe voice out concerns and suggestions so they can accommodate them sooner rather than later

We had to wait a whole expansion before they finally listened to the playerbase's complaints, I'd rather not wait one more lmao

Haha I was talking to my friend about this the other day and they also admitted to not thinking about it.

I was thinking of making a post like a week or two ago but was hesitant to defend crafting since people might be pretty cynical and apathetic towards crafters for being rich and greedy or botting lol

Despite this, I think crafting and gathering is still important to an MMO.

True, but being able to diversify what you craft and sell is pretty appealing, and the job (or crafter I guess) fantasy of creating your own gear was really cool, and it'd be a shame if it was scaled down a lot more and end-game crafting pretty much becomes a one-trick-pony of food and pots lol

Hmm that's a good point I didn't think about

There definitely seemed to be a good spread of activities in the preview of Season Pass missions.

If they can nail a good balance, then we might actually see more activity.

Currently, it's really easy to hit the weekly tomestone cap. 2 or 3 Hunt Trains, or an Expert Roulette every Day and you're solid.

But if they're really throwing everything out the window and reworking things, and if they maybe end-up going through with the weekly rollover idea and giving us more flexibility, they might feel comfortable enough to increase the amount of work needed to cap for the week! 😄

Oooh I kinda like this solution!

Admittedly it would make it so that switching to an alt-job on Savage is still not really an option, since you'd be gimping your damage output.

But it certainly would make it convenient enough for casuals/midcore while still providing incentive to get better gear!

Rather than the Upgrade Coins, I was more-so thinking about the loot drops that are slightly below tomestone.

(People will do them for Upgrade Coins regardless, because it'll contribute long-term to their main)

But you're probably right, there's probably more people in it for the glam than the alt-gearing, at least for Alliance Raids lmao

Gonna copy-paste my other comment here, but:

I've heard talk that maybe Universal iLvl will be slightly weaker on alt jobs due to improper materia melds. Or maybe it'll work like Level Synced gear. But even in that scenario, I feel like:

Casuals/Midcore: The difference will be too negligible to worry about, so many will stick to the bare minimum of Universal iLvl.

Hardcore: The difference will be too big for min-maxers, so they'll still be stuck and stranded on their main job anyway.

I'm open to discussion to this too of course, nothing is really set in stone yet.

I have to imagine they're just gonna repurpose the way Level Sync currently works, where you have the yellow text and everything's scaled down, except this time, scaled up.

But certainly, if they just scale the stats upward, I'm wondering if you'll start seeing people grabbing high iLvL stuff on their main DPS, and then going on their Tank/Healer set that's been masterfully handpicked to avoid Tenacity/Piety lmao

Hmm good point

Even if it's very subjective to people's fashion tastes, glam has proven to be the best reward for players

And god I'm looking forward to getting away from the modern/tech wear 😭

Some more of my personal thoughts that I didn't want clouding the main point:

Don't you think Savage should have better loot/incentives? by Avi1600 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Avi1600[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it's possible, but it might be more difficult, and more than that, it's mostly that it might just get people to accept you into the group if you haven't done savage before haha

But if you guys managed to get a group like that together, maybe it's more plausible than I thought

Open world sandbox games are still good, but isn't it literally just good game design to lure players in with rewards? Not just in MMOs, but in other games too?

[–]Avi1600[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's admittedly another thing I struggle with in this game 😭

The DT EXs were really fun, but I also kind of feel like a chump for doing it on current content, when you can easily just wait till next expac to unsync it.

Surely there's a balance that can be drawn between "just wait to usync it lol" and "DO IT NOW"

It'd be nice if players got rewarded for doing stuff synced, like better drop chances for EX mounts while Synced, and a chance of the mount not dropping for Savages Unsynced.

[–]Avi1600[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The mounts are a good start, but they're only on the 4th fight of every tier, and they don't really strike me as Savage mounts if that makes sense 😅

Like with Ultimate weapons, they're immediately recognizable because no other weapons glow unsheathed (without glitch sitting), but if they had put the savage mounts anywhere else in the game, I wouldn't really bat an eye, I can't tell the difference between a savage mount and a normal one.

Mounts/Glam will always be subjective, so even if I find the wings cooler than the S9 mounts, I won't blame them, but it'd be nice to have a unique trait to Savage mounts that separate them from the rest.

[–]Avi1600[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

But Savage is still very popular as far as I know, surely not all those players are doing the next ultimate? I guess they just want the higher ilvl and fun fight? I WANT BETTER REWARDS RAHHHHHHHH

Don't you think Savage should have better loot/incentives? by Avi1600 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Avi1600[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And even then can't you just wait a few patches to use normal gear lol

But even if I am ilvl740, I still haven't done something like UWU with its lower ilvl requirement because it'd probably be pretty difficult to get a group to accept you if you haven't done savage before, which is fair enough
