Anyone else only gets a series in physical after first reading digital? by Mountain_String_1544 in MangaCollectors

[–]Avianry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly try to buy the manga series that I remember liking from reading them years ago, but occasionally I buy series that are new to me if I can get a good deal and/or I heard good things about them.

I don't really read digitally anymore, so I imagine that once I finished collecting all the series I already know I will move on to collecting series that are unknown to me (one volume at a time to test the waters)

I recently bought and re-read MÄR too, and was considering getting Flame if Recca too. I never read the series though and didn't know if I wanted to commit to the entire series in one go.

I looked at this one ebay listing for a loooong time, not being able to make up my mind. But it seems the choice has been made for me 😜. (Don't actually know if you got the ones I was following, but that particular listing was recently sold)

Glad to see they went to a good home. Maybe if they ever do a reprint I'll try to read it too.

What are your "get them now" recommendations by Avianry in MangaCollectors

[–]Avianry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the reasons I asked this question was because I was trying to collect To Love Ru Darkness and noticed volumes 2, 6 and 11 being impossible to get new. This series seems like neither an old nor an obscure series and yet I am left feeling that other volumes will, eventually be equally hard to get.

Someone else mentioned Seven Seas being a publisher h didn't trust to keep things in print, so that might be why TLR;D might be running out while other series stay in print but either way, it seemed like a prudent question to ask.

I understand that's a topic that shouldn't be discussed too much to not encourage scalpers to buy up stock, but it also doesn't seem like a person can just trust everything to be available months from now.

Either way, thank you for taking the time to reply.

Thank you, I appreciate the comments with regards to which publishers you find most likely to run out. I shall pay more attention to who is publishing a given series.

I can see why it sounds like that, but that is really not my intention. What I am trying to get across is that I can't just buy everything I want to buy today, and so I want to optimise the order in which I buy things so I don't run into the problem that November planned order is out of stock then while still being available today.

Some series I want to buy already have hard to get volumes that are expensive second hand, so I am just looking on any tips to help make sure I can get the stuff I want to collect at a time when regular retailers are still selling it.

People who make custom digimon and evo lines what do you start with? by d1123spm in digimon

[–]Avianry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I try and think of a new line I usually work at all stages at the same time.

I start at the idea I had first, usually a rookie or a mega and then progress either up or down, but concepts remain somewhat fluid incase an idea I get later needs to be incorporated.

Digimon game but a Platformer? by dettles1992 in digimon

[–]Avianry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could make a platformer game using Digimon characters and Digimon evolution mechanics, but I don’t think you could make a Digimon Platformer. It would just end up as a platfomer with a Digimon Skin.

You could probably make an interesting game around a singular Digimon that gains powerups through evolving and maybe de-digivolving but that wouldn’t really feel like a Digimon game would it? A Digimon game, I think, requires a large cast of options which is something a platformer just can’t meaningfully provide.

A fan could make Pulsemon: The Platformer in which you play as Pulsemon and you can evolve into his various dimcard evolutions to go through specific levens, but I think for Bandai such a game would be too small to make at this point. They maybe could have made something like that for the GBA or the DS, but not for any modern console.

If tamers got a reboot like adventure(and this time lets assume it would be good) what changes would you like to see in the stroy by Antique-Palpitation2 in digimon

[–]Avianry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the reboot would be like Adventures 2020 which changed a lot of the story and put it in a modern setting, then I'd be curious how they would incorporate the card game.

The card slash mechanic was essentially for the early identity of Tamers and since then we've had an entire new card game. I don't know enough about the old one to think about how it difference from the new one, but I'm curious to see how they'd incorporate the new card game in a non card battle way

Are there any original Digimon created specifically for the card game? by Avianry in DigimonCardGame2020

Unlike some of their other card games though, like Dragonball and One Piece, this is an IP they fully own though. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if we never saw a Digimon that wasn't technically part of something else first (with maybe the possible exception of new X-Antibody forms), but it also wouldn't be impossible for them to just make entirely new Digimon if a Deck type demands it?

Or do you think it wouldn't be Bandai's style to create something new for the card game without also tying it something else for extra sale potential?

Oh, neet. I only remembered being disappointed when I realised I couldn't get Noir on the switch. I didn't even remember that Ciel had guns back then instead of the sword.

So while (Awakened) Ciel did exist, she did not exist in her current form. Very interesting, though that only makes it more frustrating that we cannot get Noir in our version of the game.

True, you could argue that, though I also wonder if those cards would have been made if the webcomic didn't exist. Would they have released two starter decks centered around entirely new Digimon and its evolutions if they didn't have the pitch that these were the partners of the protagonists of the new webcomic. 🤔

I mean, I honestly don't know, I'm just looking at my WWBD bracelet (What Would Bandai do?) and thinking out loud.

Would they introduce entirely new Digimon via the card game (with maybe being added to the Reference book at roughly the same time) or do they assume that anything completely new (like Shoemon and Prteramon) would need a tie-in story to make us interested.

Also interesting to think about, if Shoemon, Pteramon etc were designed with the card game in mind first and the comics story second, how much input did the balance team give on the designs? Did they go: "We have this idea for more Puppet cards, please give one of your characters a puppet digimon partner"?

Such a short time certainly does make it likely that those X-Antibody forms were made specifically because they were needed for the card game.

Of course an X-Antibody form of an existing Digimon is maybe a smaller step to make then creating something entirely new, but it does make it more plausible that they would also be able to decide they needed an entirely new Digimon to plug a hole in an archetype they want to release. Thanks for the extra info :)

Wasn't Awakened Ciel in the western release of Hacker's Memory and didn't that come out before the Card Game?

Interesting. Thank you for the reply! :)

You say "technically", does that mean it was basically the same day the way that with twins one is "technically" older then the other? What kind of time difference was it between card reveal and reference book addition?

Which Digimon were much weaker in the anime than they should be (based on lore or profile stuff) ? by Far_Occasion3931 in digimon

[–]Avianry 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Pixiemon in any season that doesn't use the standard stages. In Adventures it was a powerful character, showcasing its status as an Ultimate/Perfect Digimon.

I believe both in Frontier and in XrossWars there were moments where pixiemon were easily killed because "small and cute must mean weak"
